New guy lookin for opinions on 5.0s

Hey all, im looking to get a 5.0 vert, but I cant decide on an sn95 or a fox.. Im a highschool senior, so cash is a little tight, but i also have a pretty steady income (i do tutoring for about 18 bucks an hour) and i have saved up a good bit of cash for the car, and all the goodies that come with it like insurance and gas.. so it all comes down to what car, so ill ask the stangnet guys I like both cars, the sn looks nicer and the chicks would like it more, but the fox is pretty badass too. basically, the fox would cost less initially, but its an older car and will probably need more work than a 94-95. I was kinda leaning towards the fox, i like that its something i can get cheaper and use some leftover cash to build up myself and make more custom.. well thats until i started looking around locally, and i was kind of surprised at the prices.. it seems like the fox cars are really appreciating.. i hear about you guys picking up your cars in nice shape for a few grand, and around me a quality fox goes for almost the same as a nice sn95.. is this normal, or are the owners a little crazy? This started to make me rethink.. the prices arent that far apart so its almost a ripoff paying the same for the fox that you could get a nice sn95 for. Its a newer car, more features, and i also understand there were some changes and refinements made mechanically to the sn over the fox, so its probably a better choice overall. What do you guys think? Its all up in the air right now, thanks for any opinions

If it were me, I would buy an sn95 and do a Faleen (fake Saleen) they are super hawt!

heres my opinion to you.. your doing the right thing #1 for wanting a mustang... i was having that same problem 3 months ago.. i bought a FOX, heres my 1st advice Dont get a v6 thinken your gonna trick it out.. your better off getting a v8 that dosent run and make it run.. Look around dont buy the 1st car u look at.. if i did, and i wanted to bad, i didnt know the 1st thing about it.. i would of bought one with a recked front end.. Get your moneys worth.. when u find the one you want, its prolly not gonna be the one you get.. theres somthing wrong with it.. get that state of mind... get all underneith the car look for welds oil leaks cuz their there u just gotta find them... test drive all of them and take someone that knows more about cars then you.. they'll no best.. my problem was i wanted every car i looked at.. but the guy that i took told me if i dont think its a good buy, your not getting it.. that was hard for me, man we looked at 13 cars before i found mine.. now that i have it i am GLAD.. the car is cherry.. nothing wrong at all engine wise, minor detailing involved.. my advise to you is Get a FOX, there GR R R R EAT like tony said.. I sold my 95 to buy a 88GT and I'm glad I did....the SN does have some better things about it (rear disc and 5 lug a bit more comfortable interior) but the FOX is an older car so it is a little less moderin than the SN so it just boils down to what you would rather have. But the FOX just looks badass. The SN looks more like a chick car but can also look verry mean at the same time. They are both great cars and the 5.0L engine in the fox or SN can be modded fairly cheep. The 4.6 is a good engine but cost's more to mod but the old pushrod engine has proved it self time and time agian

True Statment my mom drives a 95 v6 but she always wanted a mustang too and shes happy she went for confert i went with SPEED... GOD SPEED~!

I agree about the v6 part, Im gonna get a v8 from the start because the cost of a swap would equal the difference for a v8. Thanks for the advice, ill keep looking for the right car, i dont really have any time limit. also, where would you recommend i look?

I think the 4.6s are out of my price range, i think a 95 is the newest id want to get, i could probably afford something newer, but then id probably try to go with a 99+, I want to get a vert too so its out of the question. plus, the 5.0 just sounds so damn nice, and the torque is always good

i stayed off ebay i could never find one in my area, i personly used www.autotrader.com and searched my area.. i dont know if there nation wide but there a good try... i didnt have a limit either but this time of year suck for buying a car cuz u gotta garage it all winter.. ive only had mine for 2months and my stomach hurts thinken about it.. but auto trader worked for me hope it does for you too~!

Sorry for all the replys here.. i hear alot about foxs being "fun" to drive, even camaro guys with lt1 torque monsters and ls1s who have owned foxs in the past say that they are damn fun to drive.. what makes them so much fun??

Thanks man, im up in canada and ive checked the canada trader, muscle cars in general are priced so expensive, its almost worth doing an american import. What are some things to keep an eye out for on these cars? Is rust common with them?

You're in Canada, eh? Have you ever looked on www.vancouvermustangs.com local site with classifieds. Great source for looking at cars, other than that, I'd check out www.buysell.com theres always stangs for sale on there. Me personally, I'd get a fox, I may be biased, but I think the sn95's are mega ugly. They can be made nice, but they look like a midlife crisis 40 year old bleach blonde divorcee chick car. Just my opinion though.

lol, ive been over @ vancouvermustangs here and there, im into fbodys as well and I was on vancouverfbody alot too. Ill keep my eye out for cars in the area, i think now im gonna try to jump on any deal i can get. Also, if anyones got any pics of their vert that they wanna post up that would be sweet, also, some pics of nice interiors would be good too, i havent been in a fox before so maybe some nice pics will help me decide

muscle traders are pure hot rods that go for top dollar i bought a mag when i was looking and never opened it i had 5k to work with and the lowest car in that book was 12k so it was a waste of 5bucks.. but its the mag that started a bonfire without using gas... lol i dont kno anything about buy cars in canada but im sure u could buy one here then take it back!! ??

Yea i looked into importing american cars, and its actually pretty easy to do. I initially wanted an ls1 fbody and they were pretty resonably priced in the states just over the border, but then the numbers didnt work out for me with insurance and other things, so i dropped the idea and figured id go for a cheaper older car and get a vert. Ill keep looking though, but prices are just so damn high for mustangs here in good old canada

if you are really wanting a vert then I would get the sn95. fox vert parts are getting very hard to come by and they are very pricey when you do find them. the sn95s are a little more common and the engineering that went into them is light years ahead of the vert foxes. I payed 1000 for my vert and I have spent a little over that in vert specific parts just to get the roof working right. I still havnt gotten all the weather seals or interior peices for it yet.

being a fox body owner I say get a fox, if it wasnt a vert. Now that you want a vert, its hard to find a nice fox vert with a good shape top. So if its the vert you want go with the sn95. Its costed me $1700 to replace my top and get it running and fix the bent metal . But im glad i saved it

Wait until winter starts setting in, then you'll get all those people that'll start getting rid of their stangs because they have no storage. It's the best time to start looking. Early spring might be a good time too, it's when I found mine. You really have to be patient when buying in Canada. Personally I was looking for about 3 years until I found the one I wanted, but then I was looking for something specific. I would stay away from totally stock ones unless the body is flawless. The body should be your biggest concern. Many of these have seen many miles at the track. Most of the times, with the same amount of money you'll find mustangs with the basic bolt ons already done. Starting from scratch will cost way too much money. Good luck!
