Just wanted to chime in and say hello, and attempt to give a proper intro. My name is Harold and I live in Athens, Georgia. I own an 86 GT convertible and a 88 GT. I purchased the 88 from the original owner with a buck fifteen on the clock. It is a California car. The previous owner never dogged the car and its in great shape. It is sort of an odball optioned car. The car has no A/C as the previous owner stated that it didn't get that hot in the region he lived in. It has power locks, Mirrors, hatch, fuel door, but no power windows. It has power lumbar, yet no power seats. It has both cruise and tilt. And of course it is 5spd. It is basically stock. I just changed the factory clutch @ 127k. I went ahead and put a new clutch cable kit I purchased from LMR( They are really great to deal with), plus a K&N cold air filter. Other than that that's all of the mods. I will be converting over to rear disks in the near future. Again, just wanted to say hello, and thanks for letting me join up.

That is a good intro and welcome aboard.

I'm going to move this over to the Fox Talk section where it will get some traction.

Now I cannot be sure but perhaps someone else here will know... There were a limited number of cars that I vaguely recall, that were "weird optioned" that I think, had a name or designation.

Something along the lines of what might now be referred to as a California Special.

If there is any inkling of truth to this vague recollection, maybe it will spark a better memory from someone else here.

It's also very possible that it's just as you say, a "weird Optioned" car. hehehe

Welcome to
Looks like a nice solid car. Good luck on it. As far as "Cali cars" I don't remember the options. I do know that some of them came (88 vs 89) with MAF earlier than the other states.

Looks like it has some new head lights too. Besides rear disc conversion, what are the long term plans for the GT? Is it just a weekend driver?

Welcome Harold. Nice looking clean car. My 87 vert started out with that color scheme and the turbine wheels when I bought it new.

The first mods I would recommend are

Max Motorsports full length subframe connectors- this will tie together the unibody frame and make the car handle and feel much tighter.
Pro 5.0 or MGW shifter- this will give you a much shorter and crisper shift and eliminate the slop of the stock shifter
130 amp 3G alternator- the stock 65 amp alternator is barely adequate and is a fire hazard. There is a tech article in the archives on how to install it.
Upgraded brakes- A very inexpensive but excellent upgrade is the Max Motorsports kit for about $250. It has Hawk pads and rear shoes, Stainless steel front and rear brake lines and stainless steel caliper bushings. You will feel a much better pedal, a increased stopping power, and decreased stopping distance
