I just installed energy suspension tranny mount and crossmember bushings and prothane motor mounts.

The tranny mount was a PITA to get in and barely lined up....But now the tranny sits higher than it did. It actually hits the plastic shift boot casing at the center console. It will not stayed clipped in on the front.

Does anyone know why it does this? I am unsure of the shifter that I have. It was in the car when I bought it.

Any help appreciated,

Thanks in advance

I have that problem to. I purhased a Autozone transmission mount-- just the regular rubber kind and it made the trans sit to high. I was thinking of replacing it with a ford stock mount.

Is the cross member in backwards? If you were able to put the h-pipe on then you have it on right. Also can you take pictures of shifter? It shouldn't be contacting the center console, it should come up just about in the middle. Did the engine shift during the engine mount install? Also what shifter are you using? You should compare it to the stock unit and see if it is the shifter that is the problem. I know that after I installed my new motor mounts and tranny mount. I could not get my center console back on without lowering the cross member back down (this was with the MGW shifter).

I can get some pics for you. What do you mean by you couldnt get the center console in until you lowered the crossmember?

Also is how would you fit the motor back into to ensure the motor is sitting correctly? I did all of this with the motor in the car. should I jack the motor uyp again and wiggle it to see it it moves into place?

The center console is in place just the shift boot plastic area will not clip in because the tranny sticks out. I am unsure of the shifter I believe it says hurst on the side where the shifter goes into the tranny.

I will tell you this, after I installed all the nounts the car was alot faster...I dont mean there was more horsepower but It did respond much better. The old motor mounts were missing half the rubber and the rest was completely squeezed out the back and the trans mount was nearly broken.

But the tranny sitting so high concerns me. It is only pertruding up about 1/2" but not sure if a hurst shift kit would make this happen. The shifter itself says hurst and I believe the part that actually goes into the tranny says hurst as well from what I remember. I just dont feel like taking the entire center console off to check.

Here are some pics of shifter and the way the motor sits...I did this in the garage without a lift so I dont really feel like getting under the car again.

Hope this sheds a tiny light on something...

It's probably a combination of the motormounts and the trans mount.
Happened to me when i went to energy suspension mounts on both.
Fortunately a little trimming and my shifter plate did go all the way down.

Find someone to measure the stock trans mount for you, then measure your new one, see if there is any difference. If there is not, the culprit is likely the motormounts.

The boot underneath cant go any lower the shifter adjutment bolts are whats keeping the top tray cover from going down anymore. I will probably go to an autoparts store and see if I can get the original size and see if there is any difference.

I've got a poly trans mount...don't recall who makes it...not energy suspension but it's a good brand, but anyways i had the same problem but fortunately for me i don't have a console so it's not an issue. This is with stock vert motor mounts. I'd look into getting a stock replacement trans mount.

Well I think I figured it out. Turns out that Ford manufactured a hardtop and convertible mount, then without notice they switch over to the convertible mount and left it for all the cars.

Some people say if you get prothane your motor sits higher

Some people say if you get Energy Suspension your motor sits right

I believe that Prothane got the Hardtop Mount to work with.

Energy Suspension got the Vert mount to work with.

If your car originally had the non vert and you used ES, your motor would sit lower.

If your car originally had the vert mount and you used ES, you wouldnt notice a difference.

If your car originally had the non vert and you used Prothane, your motor would sit the same.

If your car originally had the vert mount and you used Prothane, the motor would now sit higher.

That was confusing to type....

So I am assumning that I orginally had vert mounts thats why the motor/tranny is raised
