Hi all,

I am new to the mustang world. I've always wanted a fox, and I finally bought one for $600; a '91 notch!

It's a little rough, but I have big plans for it.

I have a 2.3 turbo motor out of a '89 Merkur (rebuilt, new t3/t4 hybrid turbo), and a t-5 that I plan to drop into the car in the next few months.

I want to set this car up for the occasional autocross, but mainly want a nice streetable car.

Since I dont know much about the fox, my main question is what kind of suspension stuff should I do to achieve a well-rounded, good handling package?

I'm very budjet minded on this build also, so please keep that in mind.

Any info, or links for information on handling set-ups for these cars would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Carl

Welcome!

Probably the biggest thing on the Fox-chassis cars is stiffening. In fact, it's a good idea even for just a daily driver as it takes away a lot of the squeaks and rattles. You'll want to look into subframe connectors, a strut tower bracer, maybe a K-member brace. You'll also want the bigger front swaybar from a V8 car (with polyurethane bushings), and a rear swaybar (make sure you get the speednuts with it). Better wheels and tires are a must, a good first upgrade is 15" wheels from a V8 car with some 225/60R15's on them.

From there, the handling will be light years ahead of the stock setup. Springs, struts and the like are your preference. I never did anything beyond what I have listed above on my old '90 (except some cut 5.0 front springs) and it handled pretty well. I'm sure springs and struts woulda made it a lot better but I just never got around to them.

I found some lowering springs on ebay for like $90...i think they are maxspeed... then like Red said I grabbed F and R swaybars off of a GT and it handles pretty decent....
