new mustang rear seat in a classic?

has anyone tried it or have any pics of it.

i have a rear seat out of a 2000gt i'm going to try to make fit in the rear and wanted to know if anyone has tried and if it is do-able. it will be sweet if it fit caude it has the pull down rear seats to aloow for room in the trunk

if not, then i'll try it and post some pics of my progress or lack of

I have been toying with making fold down rear seats in my 67 coupe for a long time. I was going to try and make the stock seat fold down. Aren't there cross bars behind the seat back tho ?

ok, i think i can help here! this is based on my '65 coupe.
the back fold down seat from the sn95 if you have the frame that they lock into will hang right on the hooks that the original seat did. you will need to cut off a couple inches of metal that sticks up above the seats. there will be 1-2" gap on both sides. the seat bottom will take some work. in the sn95 cars there is a recess they fit into, the front of the seat is only a few inches tall.

the rear seat bottom from a fox body seems to fit pretty good, there is a gap on the sides there also, maybe 2-3" per side. the seat backs fit alot better side to side, no metal to cut off, but you will need to make a few simple brackets to allow them to pivot on to fold down.

i actually have the fronts seats from an '01 bolted to the original seat tracks, and still looking at which rear seat to use. i just got the original rear seat bottom, so not sure what i am going to do yet!

I have been watching this thread and I am glad that someone tried it. I toyed with the idea of using some type of "modern" seat to fit. I have come to the conclusion that I am just going to rebuild the lower seat. (Mine looks like an elephant sat on it for a week). I purchased some bulk seat foam before I bought the "kit" for the fronts. I plan to just improve the springs and add some foam before I have both front (91 gt seats) and back upholstered.

10secgoal and I were able to do it on sunday, we think it turned out pretty sweet. the rear seat is not as wide as the stock one so there is a 1/2" gap on each side but isn't a big deal to me.

I have pics at home i can post but i wasn't able to load them last night.

I was looking at mine, and the gap is only margianally bigger than stock. But don't worry, I can tig weld now.
Is does look slick as hell though.

(Can't believe it worked.)

I would think you could come up with something to fill the gap on the sides.

I really want to see pics of this as I wouldn't mind doing this to my '65 coupe.

as promised...

after cutting 2" off the top of the bracket we mounted the seat frame to the metal mustang frame (leave the top 3 nuts on the frame and bolt it up that way)

attached the seats back to the frame

overhead view

cut up the cabin/trunk divider to cover gap on the side of the new seats.(black side facing forward)

Looks damn nice. Care to share any of the problems you had ? Also, weren't there small cross bars that you needed to remove ?

Doesn't look like a bad fit at all. Both you and 12sec look like you have a good fit. How hard was it to secure 12sec ? I don't think Ben-stang has had a chance to work on securing his yet.

Wussy is watching American Idol, So 'll help him out. It took 3 bolts up top with the original holes that had threads, then threw another nut on there to jam it in. And put another two in the bottom to keep the frame from flexing when the rear were folded down. The bolts go thru the wall with the shock. The bottom just sit there as if it were made for the car, just like the originals.

you also need to remove the original hangers on the body for the original seat.

which seat bottom do you have in there? the sn95 base didn't seem to sit in my car. the recessed cushion that makes the "bucket" rocks on the flat floor?

the fox base rests pretty good, just need a simple bracket to keep in from coming forward, and either backrest will hold it down.

i do agree that the sn95 will bolt in, did you try using the hooks? the fox backrest will also need a few brackets to allow the seat to pivot. you can see the original bracket in the middle of the seat in one of the pics. that needs spin around behind the seat and bolted down, then similar ones made for the outer ends.

the fox backrest filles the space better, you can see better shots in my garage, but nothing a little covered filler would solve. the sn95 would be much easier to install!

i turned the seat over and put a little pressure with my foot to flatten it out

i do agree that the sn95 will bolt in, did you try using the hooks? !

i had the hooks removed before when i did the rear seat delete but i don't believe its possible to use them
