New Nittos

I got my new Nitto 555 put on last night...275/40/17. What do you recommend for daily driver tire pressure? Currently I have them set at 34psi (cold).

If they are on a 9" rim I'd put them at 30.

So what do you recommend for the track? I was told to reduce the pressure to 15.

And do the racing radials need to be heated up with burnouts?

about15-20psi should be good and yes you do have to heat up the DR's by doing a burn out for like 10sec or when you start seeing smoke from your mirrors

I'm not too good at the burnouts. I was told to stay out of the water box with treaded tires, and I still get too much wheel hop to much more than make them chirp...embarassing. I wish I knew how to sit and smoke 'em like the others do

Which Nittos did you get? Street radial or drag radial? I was told street radials are better around 26-28. Drag radials are better around 18-20. Of course, it probably differs at every track, at every temperature, at every hp/torque level.

NT555R racing radials. Got em for my anniversary.
Hubby is my pit crew

I was told to 'break 'em in right' before racing, but someone else said don't worry about it. Last race the track was hot hot hot (over 100) and they hooked up nicely, but I still only got into the 13s once. I guess not bad for a stock '01 Cobra 'vert, but I want to go faster.

I'd keep them between 15-20 psi.. do a little burnout, like they said earlier.. and you should be good to go..

I ran 15lb 1st time at track,20lbs 2nd time. Experiment a little. Street driving 28-30 is my pick. Carefull on wet surfaces. They slip badly. I did not burnout at the track.

The tires say max psi...44 lbs. I keep mine at 40.

If you have the 555's stay out of the box and keep your tires at regular psi. Dropping them will not really do anything for you becasue a radial tire has a strong sidewall by design which will flex very little which is the intent of you dropping the pressure. It will do more damage to the tire than anything. If you have the 555R's then drop the pressure to about 15psi. Do a burnout till you see some smoke and you are good to go .

So it sounds like find my personal preference for tire pressure for street driving. I was running my Eagles at 40psi.

The 275s exacberate the 4x4 look. So I guess I am looking at lowering the car...C-springs most likely.

I would say if you run 40psi and don't have a 9.5 or 10" wide rim with the 275's you will wear out the centers before the edges. Now if you live in the mountains and blast the curves on a daily basis, then you're probably good to go.

So what size rim do you recommend with a 275 tire? Or is that rim recommendation for 40 psi?

Ideally a 9.5" is recommended for the 275 but they will work on a 9" you just can't run high pressures and get straight across tire wear using that size.
If you have a 275 on a 10" rim then you would have to run high pressures to keep them from wearing more on the outside edges.
