I recently purchased an 89 Mustang GT Convertible and I am having an issue with the automatic fuel door. The electrical works fine, I can hear the disengaging of the fuel door, the problem is that the fuel door doesn't "pop" out. I always need someone to pull out the fuel door when I push the button because I can not do it alone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About the convertible top, I just wanted to know if there are any specific steps I need to take when opening the top or can I just pull/push the button?

Thanks to everyone in advance.

I apologize in advance if I am posting this in the wrong place, I am new and was looking around and this seemed like the best place to post this thread.

I have an 89 vert, owned since new...

Fuel door, there is a small black metal tab on the door that springs the door open maybe its too flattened.

Specifically 89 top frames will tear the top, you Must lower the top about 1/2 way then help fold the top away from the frame, then lower.
The elbow knuckle was poorly designed, there was a recall on it which really didnt help.

Yeah, what he said. Here I took you a pic. I'm pointing at the little tab that pushes it away from the car. I should mention that it only pushes it out far enough for it to unlatch and you to get a finger behind it to open it. It won't magically pop open.
Good Luck
