Hey guys, I'm new to stangs. I just sold my SRT-4 (too much money every month) and ended up picking up an 84 5.0 for $800 from a friends towing/salvage yard. It got impounded and the previous owner couldn't afford to get it out of the impound, so it sat for 3 months and I just bought it on a lein sale. I think I got a damn good deal.
The car is pretty beat, but seems to run alright. It needs a bit of body work, the interior was disgusting so I stripped it. There is a bunch of aftermarket wiring in the car and it's really ghetto, but I'm good with electronics so I'm gonna rewire everything. I already replaced the battery, the alt isn't charging it so a new 100 amp is on it's way, and the carb leaks gas, so I figure I'll just get a new high performance carb. I'm gonna flush all the fluids and replace all the plugs and wires next week also.
This is my first carbureted car and I don't know too much about them. I've done a bit of searching and talked to a few people and I think what I want/need is a 650 cfm 4 barrel double pumper, I like Edelbrock and think that's what I wanna go with, of course Holley would be good too. My plans are to get the car running maybe low 12's all motor. I'm gonna convert is to an electric fan also when I replace the alternator next week.
So what I need is help from carburated mustang experts! Does that sound like a good carb for what I want? Any advice or things I should know? I just need guidance with this thing, I really don't know anything about it or any older cars for that matter. Thanks in advance guys...
