New owner need alittle help

Well i have to admit this is the first Ford I have ever owned (Bowtie guy) but i picked up a 99 GT this weekend for a good deal. The motor has about 18k miles on in installed by a local dealer. As far as mods it has a H-pipe, exhaust and intake. I drove it home and it drove fine no sputtering or hesitation but the gas was on E. So the next day i drove it to put gas in it 91Oct and pick up a few things at the autoparts and noticed it had a hesitation in 1st and 2nd up to about 2k rpm then it smooths out and runs great. I took the air filter off and pulled the throttle body and MAF and cleaned them all. I drove it this morning to work and it would hesitate sometimes but when i got on it off the line it pulled strong without hesitation. So im wondering did i clog the fuel filter and our the plugs due change. Also the intake kit on the car has the filter in front of the pass front tire with a fairly small filter is this safe or should i order a known intake kit. Also i noticed the idle sometimes hangs alittle before it finally drops to 700 or so is this normal. Sorry if these have been address before but i searched and didn't find anything that really fit my problems. Just wanna make sure its running good before i start to play with it.

The hanging before returning to idle is a trademark characteristic of these engines. And I'd say it's plenty possible the fuel filter could be clogged if it's been sitting on a dealer lot with a small amount of gas in it for several months. If it pulls hard up top, I wouldn't be concerned that the air filter is too small, and the worst thing that would do is rob you of some power. If you're thinking of replacing the plugs, make sure to familiarize yourself with the torque specs because it's very important to follow those... plug blow outs are common with these engines when the torque specs are not followed.
 
yeah i did a search for plugs and seems everybody says to stick with motorcraft and the 13ftlbs torque for the plugs. Also i noticed as i was looking the car over I found a connection back by the fuel tank that is not connected to anything (looks like a fuel line connection) and doesn't look like it has been for a while.
 
LOL THE COP ISSUE STRIKES AGAIN!

The hesitation is most likely due to bad coils. This is a VERY common promblem on these motors. In fact, I have the dame damn problem. It almost feels like the tranny is slipping from about 1500-2000rpms. Mine is so bad that it frequently sputters even while at WOT. Im about to change the plugs (although I doubt they're the problem). New coils are $300+ so I hope to GOD that swapping new plugs will help!
 
well I changed the fuel filter and i have to say 91 is alittle tangy LOL but when i finally got it off it was black fuel when i poured it out but not clogged. Also i found a coil that had the little tab broke off that bolts it down to keep it secure. Checked the coil and made sure it was seated and jigger rigged it till i get a new one. After the seafoam treatment i took the car out and beat on it alittle and it pulls strong if i hammer it but driving normal its just in 1st and 2nd from 1k to 2k rpms it hesitates and than smooths out. So this weekend im gonna pull the injectors and clean those up and change the PVC and oil and hope it fixxes it is there anything else I could change.

Coil packs like $200 at Summit racing. Nice bright yellow color too. lol

OP. You are on the right track. Finish giving the car a full tune up. After you've done all that, I would have to say to change the coil packs.
