Thanks for all of your help. I was able to take the MAF sensor out and clean it in about 10 min's!!! It worked great. I romped on the car, running at redline all over the neighborhood and had no pinging. Then it started again... I'm sure it just pulled more oil out of the filter. I will clean it again tonight.
Should I clean and re-oil the filter with less oil to avoid this from hapening again? Or will it just clear itself up in it's own time?
I have the same problem with my 2000 GT. I've cleaned the MAF and ran Seafoam, to no avail. (PCV valve has been changed twice, in accord with Ford's maint. schedule) My theory is that the piston slap supposedly fixed in '99 made its way to my Windsor, and I have accumlation causing detonation. Ford said I was lugging it. I don't think 5,200 RPM qualifies as lugging.
I'm simply going to run it til it doesn't run anymore, then drop in a DSS or similar. I'm hoping for another 100k, but unfortunately, she's using oil (1-2 qts every 5k.)
BTW, friends of mine suggest using Lucas every so often in the tank. It suppsedly helps with bad gas, similar to Seafoam.
you won't get teh ban if you stay cool... have fun seafoaming the ranger. We did it to my friend's 1998 3.0 ranger w/ 90k on the clock, talk about a smoke show!
When its hot outside my car will ping between shifts but thats it. I can make it stop by giving it more gas when letting the clutch out. I use 89 when its hot and it pretty much goes away.
