Ok so im replacing my gears and doing the install myself. I am experienced and have taken classes on this so im not worried. My question is i want to bullit proof my rear so i can really launch on some slicks. What do you guys use as far as lsd goes? I plan on some moser 31 spline axles. What rear unit is best in you guys honest opinion??

thanx for the help :SNSign:

Ford Trak-loc diff, they are cheap and easy to rebuild. If all you're doing is going straight, go with a spool. Also weld the upper and lower torque boxes at the seams, and weld the axle tubes to the center section.

i already have a fms girdle with fill and drain plugs in mind. I plan on running slicks and with 4.10s i have had to many friends snap axles and blow the trac loc in the diff. Id rather build it up while im in there you guys know.

So the setup im thinking is

-Detroit Truetrac Diff
-Moser 31 spline axles
-FMS Axle girdle cover
-All new bearings etc etc
-Nicer stronger wheel studs (suggestions/size??)

I also might be spraying a 100 shot soon so i really dont wanna blow it up haha

You know guys who have snapped 31 spline Mosers, and blown up 31 spline diffs? Dang... Trac-lok is easy and cheap to rebuild if you ever kill it. It's way more cost effective than a trutrac - not that that is a bad option if you wanna shell out the $430+ for one. $80 for a used 31 spline explorer diff, $55 for carbon fiber clutch trac-lok rebuild... $135 vs. $430+, trac-lok is the better choice imo.

Moroso makes wheels studs, Motive has a good bearing kit.

Nooo i know guys who have blown up the stock diff and axles. Just using 4.10s and slicks, and since ill be running 4.10s slicks and a 100 shot or blower havent decided I really dont feel like breaking crap. So since it will be out anyhow might as well built it and i had planned on the motive bearing kit.

I've look everywhere and can't find the carbon fiber for less than 90 or so. The regular kit was 45 before shipping.

Well now im paying for a lawyer lol..... stupid cops. Long story, but it could take a lil while longer to get this stuff installed. Nice setup jivepepper see im installing all myself so i get to save the 350 labor cost. Hence ill have more money for the truetrac. If i was not doing this myself i would just get and rebuild the explorer diff.

That's the same setup I have going in, cept i went with new gears - and I have free labor heh. I haven't bought the rebuild kit yet, but I was told by a friend of mine who works in the parts department at a dealer that it was $55 with his discount.
