I changed rear gears on my 8" to 3:25. All new everything in the carrier. Set up according to Ford manual. Back lash is good and bearing pre load set on side bearings and pinion with new crush sleeve. Pattern looked good. Now the rear whines on the drive side at 50 mph. Coast side is quiet. What is the fix for this?

it sounds to me like the gears are a bit loose even though they are in spec.

I had a drag shop build me a new 9" rear end and swap it into my 69 coupe. With new axles, tracklock and 3.51 gears. It whined for quite awhile at highway speeds. I think its a break in period thing.

did theyuse the Ford fricion modifier added to the gear oil?
