ok, the other night a ran at the track one time before the rain hit and i ran 14.3@102 w/1.890 60 foot on slicks and skinnys with the clutch slipping horribly. MY local performance shop recomended a king cobra clutch, is that a good clutch? how much power can it handle?

Wow you should have ur track check their calibration. 102mph is VERY high for someone with your short list of mods. Look at all the mods in my sig and i barely trap 101.80. Also with that strong of a launch and a 102mph trap speed i would expect at least a 13 second timeslip. On the other hand im not really sure how to factor in the clutch slipping factor.

I have a King Cobra clutch and I love it. Its great for street use, however if you plan on any heavy mods in the near future (like before you go through another clutch) I would look more towards a dual friction clutch of some kind. They aren't that much more expensive than the King Cobra, and they can handle a lot more power. Might as well toss it in there now instead of having to pay for another clutch install in the future.

If you just plan on mostly street driving though (or are low on cash), you can't go wrong with the King Cobra, its good for what you pay.

I'm in the same boat as you as my clutch went out on me racing this past saturday, on the launch the clutch pedal was out but the RPM's just stayed in one place... and MAN did it stink. I only made 2 passes and my best was only a 13.3 at 108.95!!! I will be calling today to see what is a good setup for me. I would never run the king cobra based on Don Walsh's recommendation, and he designed it. I've run the FMS clutch forever (I'm on my 3rd) and its a great clutch for non-slick cars, especially cars on DR's as its easily slipped compared to say a Spec stage 3. I'll let you know what I decide to go with.

Check this link out. Even Spec stage1 grabs more than the king Cobra and the effort to use the clutch is less. And is practicly the same price !Clicky

Are you sure that mph is right? 102 is wicked fast! I was trapping at 96 mph with intake, MAF, TB, gears and full exhaust
