I have built nothinh but pushrod 5 liters over the years and just bought a 2000GT. I understand I have 2 Valve heads. What other heads will work on this motor. Im mainly looking to see if 4 valve cobra heads will fit. What are PI heads? Is stroking it worth the time and money? My last was a 514 stroker and bofore that was a 347. Waht are some cam manufactures to look at for this motor and what set up. I will be N/A for now but in the future swithch to a KB super charger. Pros and cons on a root style on this motor. On header install, Do you have to life the motor?
Thanks for the help.

IF you are looking for power, bolt on a Procharger D1SC. No need to crack a valve cover or intake on a 4.6L to get big power, just add boost.

But you yes, you can change the heads to 4V....but you better buy a kit or a parts motor to get everything you need.

I see. swapping cams are not that big of a gain if Im just gonna be tossing on a supercharger. Hum? Interesting. I do beleive that though. As far as the heads go, what can I look at if I was to look for high flowing heads to complement a S/C. Am I better off porting them or just a S/C and done deal? On the LT headers whats the best way to install them? Top or bottom.

You can't really approach these engines like you would your previous small and big block OHV's. You can add displacement, but only ever so slight. And since the stroke is already quite long (longer rods on a 4.6L 281-modular than a 5.8L 351W) you ideally want to add bore. The problem is, is that the bore spacing with these engines is already so closely spaced, that you're limited to the amount you're able to increase it by.

A 4V head conversion is possible, but it's a lot of work and money. So much in fact, that you're just as well at this point to work with your existing 2V components in order to reach your desired power levels.

Your 2000GT is already running the PI (Performance Improved) heads and a Windsor Block. Your best bet an N/A power from here on out comes from simple bolt-ons and cams. The PI headed 4.6L's respond much better to simple bolt-ons, than the old 5.0L did, since their volumetric efficiency is far more superior. But again, this only will bring you to a point. Once you're hit the 300RWHP mark, you're going to start having to get creative. Custom cams, ported heads and high flow intakes will take you a little further (another 20-30hp), but at this point, your biggest limitation is going to be the lack of displacement.

What really works well on these engines is Forced Induction. Nitrous is fine too, but you really don't want to hit it much harder than 100-125hp shot on the stock bottom end for longevity sake. Any of the major brand superchargers (Procharger, Kenne Bell, Vortech, Paxton, Allen, Roush, Saleen) will get you into the 350-400RWHP mark on a stock GT with conservative tuning and boost. Much beyond the 400RWHP mark though, you're going to want to look at tearing into the short block and beefing up the stock rods and pistons to handle the increased cylinder pressures.

After that...that sky is the limit. You can reach 600 even 700RWHP with a boosted 2V once the fuel and ignition components have been address. But as with anything else, at this level it's going to take money and time.

It's your money, so you'll have to decide how you want to spend it. As the old saying goes. Horsepower costs money....how fast do you want to go?

PP isn't worth the money. I would start with a supercharger, L/T's, 3.73's or 4.10 gears, and a good tune first. L/T's are best installed from the bottom..that is actually the only way. MAke sure you start this on a Thursday, so you have all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday to finish it. This job is huge and tough. You gotta take out the starter and lift the engine. You will want to remove the drivers side mount for ease of installation. The passenger side you may want to remove, but once the L/T is in I don't think you can get to that upper motor mount bracket to put the bolt in. This is a tough job, if you have an auto trans...I would suggest paying somebody to do it. A stick will give you more room to work bu it is still a nightmare. I think I could do mine myslef now, but back in 2001 I paid to have them done. But they are worth 40-60HP with a blower depending on boost.

This just answered my questions. Ill get the exhaust, shifter, gears, and work up to a S/C. Ill do afew bolt ons but I will stay back a bit since in mid winter I will go forced induction. Thanks for all the help. The headers will suck to install but that will be fine. Ill keep up up dated with pics.

Sounds good man. If you do go superchrager the only mods I would not do is underdrive pullies first. They must come off to have a blower....check this link for N/A two valve performance. This is the place that I go to for tuning and the install of my blower. He offers performance packages....best info and best tuning around.
