NEW TO MUSTANGS

Hi everyone.....just bought my first Mustang, an 06 GT.

I am a longtime gear head, but its always been an older American muscle car. I have built cars from the ground up...but these "NEW" muscle cars are a mystery to me. I would like to hear about these cars and their potential from the guys and gals "in the know".

Please grace me with what you know about these cars.....no detail is too small.

Here is what I have, a 2006 Mustang GT, v-8 5 speed. All stock except for a shifter, a throttle body spacer and sequential tail lights. The car still has the original tires on it.

I wanna do rims, a hood, a stripe(s), exhaust and eventually more.

Those tires gotta go. So you probably got 17 x 8 wheels, get some 18 x 9's.
Bigger, wider tires, then lower the car 1 inch. Next, Axle back exhaust.
A couple of simple ...cheap mods... The cars already "Fast" so
performance mods can sit on the back burner till you get the looks & Sound.

The tires def have to go.....your right they are 17x8...I am just trying to figure out what rim to use.

What exhaust is recommended? I love the flowmaster sound so, those are what I want.

Will changing the mufflers require tuning?

OK SSD here is the deal. an engine is an engine these "NEW" muscle cars just have more crap on top....and more cams. LOL Mufflers will not require tuning, I've used the new Flowmaster Hush power series with great sound results, unfortunately the regular ones like the 44 series sound like dog poo on these cars because the muffler is at the rear and the drone is horrific (That is true with most brands not just FM).
Here are the important details it's a 281ci motor with aluminum block and cylinder heads, each cylinder head has 1 camshaft with variable timing adjusted by the computer. Each cylinder has 3 valves (2 intake 1 exhaust) static compression is 10:1 however due to cylinder head efficiency, aluminum and modern machinery you can still add a decent amount of boost and run pump gas. Any mods that affect air fuel ratio will require tuning so the question is are you going to stay naturally aspirated or forced induction?

I am gonna keep it naturally aspirated for the foreseeable future.....maybe next year I'll think about some kind of forced induction.

you will get angry when you have to take parts off. the screws and bolts are standard and metric..lol. and try and stay retro if you do any exterior work. XD. but of course you already know that. I hate it when ppl put those crappy looking tail lights. also, my pypes pype bomb resonators sound great. all I need is long tube headers o/r but im in cali. so i cant.

Can anyone tell me how much torque and HP these cars make in stock trim? Also, what would a good driver be able to coax out of one of these cars in the 1/4 mile?

Search youtube or Americanmuscle.com for exhaust sound clips on our cars. They all sounded different to me and I listened to them for 2 weeks before I settled on the Bassani. They do drone terrible between about 1650-1900rpms though. I just turn up the stereo or press harder on the go pedal to get rid of the noise.

RE: wheels..look at all the pics of cars here and find some that you like. personally, I like the 18" factory polished Bullitts that are on my car and a lot of the premiums I believe. IMO, they are some of the nicest looking wheels Ford has put on a Mustang.

These cars came with 300 BHP and a good driver should be able to get 13.8x in the 1/4 mile

Those are nice rims.....do the factory polished bullit wheels have a clearcoat on them? Polishing wheels is something I hate to do.
