hey guys im new to this site, and found this from my friend. I currently have a V6 3.8 and it blew out. I have someone that has an 89 or 90 5.0 and that will install it for me. I need to know if this is worth it or should I put a 4.6 in instead. The engine is for $1000.00 and is slightly modified(headers,intake,etc.). I currently have a GT transmission in my mustang. This person has the computer with the engine as well. He also has the exhaust. I have heard installing the 5.0 in a 96 mustang may be to costly and even might be illeagal. If anyone can help me out with this i would greatly appreciate it. By the way, this site rocks!!!!! :worship:

It would cost you more $$$ to swap in a 4.6L than it would to sell it and buy a V8 Mustang. Its even MORE $$$ to swap in a 5.0L

does it matter that my mustang is a manuel transmission. Would it be cheaper if its a manuel. why would it be so much money to install if i already have the engine? What makes it so much money?

electricial wiring, you need a transmission adapter, install (if you're not doing it yourself) mounts, etc..

The only way it would be worth the money would be insurance savings if you are under 25. The cost of your insurance would be less on the engine swapped car and you could make the money back depending on how long you keep it.

Your entire electrical system needs to be rewired, new radiator fan assembly, A/C units w/ wiring, mounts, etc., etc., etc....

If you plan on installing a 5.0L, you need all that listed above plus an entirely new fuel system.

It's going to cost you a pretty penny

what state do you live in? also what year is your car? if its CA and your car is 96 or newer your only option is a 4.6. the cost is too high, the motor is one of the cheaper parts of the swap. the transmission would have to be changed because you will be putting in a larger/more powerful motor that your original trans was not designed to accomidate.
