new to the track

going to the 1/8 mile local dragstrip tonight
1st time ever at a strip

2007 gt vert, stock 5 speed, stock 235/50 18's

i know, helmet, stay out of the water . . .

(total newbie question here, but . . .)
how do i do a short burnout?
TCS (off?), rpm (___?), brake pedal on (full force?), parking brake (off?) other . .



for launching:
TCS (on or off?)

launch rpm(____?)

dump clutch, and then punch gass after traction?
or ease off of clutch?

I was hoping we were in the same area.

I have the BMR front tubular suspension, and a 62mm turbo... and a whole bunch of other crap...

You need drag radials or ET streets for the track... Turn off traction control. You don't need a burnout on street radials other than to get water off. If you heat them up too much, they actually will lose traction off the line.

Go on the third yellow light! Make sure you watch the race in front of you so you see what kind of tree you have.

I launch at around 2500-3000 rpms and slip the clutch in first for a little bit so you get little to zero wheelspin. Second gear is all in the track prep really unless you feel like feathering it.

To do a burnout, rev up to 2kish, dump the clutch, hit the brake. If you want to do a burnout without "hopping" at the track, back into the water, spin ur tires for a quick bit, then roll forward and proceed to do the burnout.

Turn your TCS off!!

Every time I go to the track my first run I do this and I actually have this documented on dvd people saying in the crowd, "what the hell was that?"

My buddy is supposed to be making a "switch" that will default to off and need to be turned "on" when needed.

That would have saved a few laughs.

burnouts were definitely better when i didnt forget to diable the tcs
(never stalled it, nearly did though)

the missing reaction times weren't deleted due to even greater suckiness, they just didnt print out at all.

I got a little confused on run 1, apparently I "over staged", & had to back up (I guess I technically "left", and had redlighted, since my stage light went out, and the other guy was either prestaging or pre-staging). all i know was i backed up, and was inching forward again, then i look up and he goes, a light(his?) is green so i punch it. i dont remember if i ever got a green, but i suspect it was a red, (or would they reset it after an over-stage, and then backing up?)
bottom line is i got flustered, and confused, and this had me on edge paying more attention to the tree, and little attention to my tach. bottom line is my launch rpm's were all over the place, and i have no idea which was which.

Oh yeah!!!!! I've got that beat!!!!! How's about going to the track for the very first time in an automatic...doing your short burnout, pulling up to the line and then gunning it...only to have this happen... Check out the girl's reaction sitting in the bleachers...

The only 'vert at the track the day I went was an '06 V6. I don't know what his 1/8 mile times were, but he was running 14.6s in the 1/4. Bone stock automatic.
To put your times in comparison with my '00 GT manual(Flows and Eibach springs). I ran a best of 9.14@77 in the 8th. Your 60' times look respectable, but I'm not sure how easy/hard you are taching and shifting it to run such low ET/MPH. Probably need to launch around 2000 RPM(slip the clutch a bit to prevent wheelspin) and shift at about 6000 RPM. It helps to preload the shifter before engaging the clutch(put weight on the shifter as if your were going to push/pull it out of the current gear and into the next, then when you engage the clutch it's as if the shifter just falls into the next gear). That will help reduce your gear change times.
Good luck and practice, practice, practice...Esp before you go and add that turbo!!!!! If you haven't gotten comfortable with your car now...what will it be like with an extra 100+ HP???
