Long story short, driving down the road, car started backfiring and popping, then bucking and surging. Now it's done this in the past, and a good WOT usually fixes it, this time it made it worse. Soon, the car dies. Coasting down the road in Nuetral now, in traffic, trying and trying to start the car. Sometimes it starts then dies, sometimes it doesn't start at all. I make it in traffic about 1/2 mile down the road, then right before I got to a red light, I banged a left into someones big driveway.
Then, car won't start, won't start, starts then dies. So I check plug wires, dist. cap and rotor, strter and coil connections, listen for vacuum leaks, then I whip out my trusty code scanner.
#53 and #63. Both TPS codes. Call NAPA (15 sec. drive down the road!) They have a TPS in stock.
SWEET!
Walk down, by it, walk back, slap it on, car starts right up and idles OK.
Jump in the car, finish work for the day.
Car felt much stronger at times, then much slower at times.
Get home, grab my multimeter, and try to set it.
Now it's dark, trying to push and pull and keep one grounded and the other in the wire, kinda sucked. At one point, I had it to .95, started it right up, then tured it off and checked again, it went back to .91.
So, the "enough is never enough" part of my personality tried to adjust it again, and this time could only get a best of .90.
I called it a night and screwed it down again. I disonnected the battery and I'm going back to reconnect in 30 min.

SO, is .90 sufficient? Will I get better performance if I try again and take it to .95? I want the best throttle response and performance possible, so if the PITA of getting .95 is worth it over .90, just give me the word!!
Oh yeah, sorry about my whole "long story short" lie....

Thanks guys!!

P.S. I love owning a Mustang because if I was any other brand or non-enthusiast driver and my car just died while driving down the road, I would up s#!t's creek w/o a paddle, and up to my ears in Tow truck and mechanics bills!
But not us! grab the code scanner, pop the tools out of the trunk, stop by NAPA, and we're OUTTA HERE!!!

I thougt .98 was the best? Try messing with the idle screw underneath the TB, that may make it a little easier.

Just realized - I adjusted mine w/o the Key On.
Does that mean my .90 reading is inaccurate??

engine warm and off..ignition on, set the tps to anything from .85v to 1.0v and your good to go..closer to 1.0 will yeild no performance advantage at all.

You don't want it at 1 or over 1. I would set it to around .95v and be done with it, no point in going any higher.

it dosent matter if engine is warm or not to set the TPS. its just more heat you have tu suck up while setting it. set your mech. idle first buy disconnecting your IAC. then use the throttle plate screw to set idle to around 800 rpm. now hook up IAC and set TPS to .92 - .98. also check to make sure that at WOT it reads no more than 4.6 volts as this will send an error to your ECU and could try to put the car into safe mode.

you cant adjust it with the key off - no Vref to the TPS.

and i agree with Derek and others (I am starting to sound like S&2B's) - dont mess with it. the puter should zero it out anyhow, if it is within spec. if not, you will spit a code.

good luck.

Interesting. I set mine w/ the key off.
I watched it fluctuate just as it's supposed to w/o the key in, anywhere from .74-.98...
Factory fluke??
Maybe I'm just special

sorry, unclear explaination: When I adjusting the TPS, the voltage moved up or down according to clock-wise and counter-clockwise movements.
\Once I screwed it back down, all good.
