Well now that i'm looking at my wrecked 93 i'm trying to decide what to do with regard to my 88. My inital plan was to do a turbo 4. Then I decided to go with a V-8 swap. Now i'm thinking about the turbo 4 again. But it's based on the answers I get.
I have a PERFECTLY good 2.3 out of my 93. Now I know the bottom end won't hold up and don't plan to use it. The head is brand new with the roller cam. Cam taken from a ranger, should be the same...anyway. I was thinking of putting the 93 motor into my 88. (Keep in mind the 93 with an auto would SPANK my 5spd 88). Get it up and running and then get a donor motor from a TC or Merkur.
Next pull the motor and swap the bottom end only, retain my 8 plug head, DIS ignition, and mass air. Obvioulsy use the turbo and such but what are everyones thoughts.
My thought is that it will flow better, run smoother, more efficently and with the mass air not have to deal with the limits of the VAM. I assume at some point a chip will be needed. but maybe not.
Other issues that I think I can get by easily is timing.....adjustable cam sproket.
Thoughts everyone???
