Have a local trim shop do mine. $350 for all 3 seats.

When I asked about the presewn covers, he said he'd seen some really nice ones, and some really crappy ones. As he pointed out, if you add in the cost of somebody installing them (they have been known to rip during installation), you'll spend as much as letting them do them from scratch.

For some cars, it was the only choice anyway, since only standard all-vinyl was available from MU.

was it you that sent me the exhaust part? i owe somebody some money and i believe it is you?? anyway, i had taken a 1/2 day off yesterday and drove the cobra out of storage for the first time since October. She ran great, anyway, stopped at the professional upholstery shop. Guy has been in business for 30 years and he LOVED the car. I was really impressed! He was close to drulling...honestly. He is going to give me a price on friday. It sounds like this guy is good, but high, like everything else around here i think he is going to run me about $700.00....i really do. well, you tell me... when i got there yesterday, there was a guy there who just bought an older caviliar for his daughter and it was a rag top. the car needed a new white top. the upholstery guy gave him an esitmate of $850.00 for the new rag top. is this good or what...does anyone know????? i really would like to know what to expect.

Paid $700 for a '91 Stang top with glass rear curtain about 2 years ago. I would say the top price is probably pretty close , taking the ever-escalating cost of everything into account.

One thing to remember about stuff like this is, that the trim shop is likely to use the better/best of any given product on the market. They have to, their reputation is on the line, whereas a vendor halfway across the country will likely have lots of buyers looking for a deal. I know you can buy conv. tops pretty cheaply online and through the catalogs, but here's a little rule I have learned the hard way: When were you ever sorry you bought the best of something?

Yep, it was me on the pipe.

he had a mercedes and a Alpha Romeo in the shop he was working on and I got a little ansi about what he will give me as a cost. i told him i could take the seats out since i put the rug in...hpoefully that will help out in the price. he also took my VIN number of my car...did he do this because i wanted an exact match? what do you think?

oh, one more thing, IF he comes back and says he couldn't find the material, do you by any chance have the company name that manufactured yours so I could tell him to get in touch with them? I'm trying to cover all bases.

I'd guess he took the VIN as a means of verifying the year/model.

I can check with my guy if I need to. Most trim shops will have a Detroit book that has sample swatches in it.

My experience with trim shops is that they get it all, from boat Bimini top fabrication to high-end luxury car work, so I wouldn't sweat it too hard till you get a price.

It's been a couple of years since I had them do the last set, so I'm sure prices have gone up some. I did get an estimate on another car, and they said about $500 for front and rear, but the front in that car also has the backrest covered on the back, as opposed to using a plastic panel like the II.

Thanks for the help if I need it. yea, sweating this one out. I could shoot myself for not getting them sooner. I'm really pissed. Can only do one thing at a time. I'll let you know what i hear.

yea, thats what this car was..how about that. and he got an amount for 850.00 so i guess thats good then. it was a blue car with a white top. i may have to take you up on the rayco company if this guy cannot do. i can drive to Reading. I will just about anything for this car. but I can get to reading.

I have a question for you and Cobra 7. did you guys get the plastic on the back of the bucket seats dyed to go along with the interior? did they do that for you or did you spray? Cobra 7, that really looks great! again, did the guy do the plastic portion for you(s)??????

the one thing you have to watch out for is the quality of the material used, make sure it is automotive grade. I hade three seats done awhile ago that was supposed to be Cobra material, well after a year and a half the black started to fade terrible

For correct material for your seats try: http://www.smsautofabrics.com/wesell.htm They have an online info form. I filled it out and they had sample swatches sent to me within a week. They have the exact velour I need for my Ghia ($95 yd!), the vinyl for my top in the correct grain and color as well as vinyl for my seat sides ($49 yd). I was very impressed with their speed and how well the material matches the original..now to start saving up some green
