new wheels are on...

...and i'm not sure if i like them

the tires are BFG KDW-2's with 255/35/20 in the front and 285/30/20 in the back. i'm pretty surprised (and disappointed) with the difference in the sidewalls. there's only supposed to be a 3mm difference in the sidewalls from front to back, but it looks like there's just not enough rubber in the back.

i finally found someone in NJ who has the KDW-2's in 295/40/20 so i've ordeed those and will see how they look on the car before i make a final decision. i also need to clean and shine the tires as right now they're more of a grey color than black

would it be possible to strip the chrome on these wheels and have them silver coated? or even powder coated black and keep a chrome lip? i'd rather not resort to trying to sell them on ebay or something...

20" in chrome may be just too much bling on an all black car.

I love the car , but I dislike the wheels . I'm not a big fan of chrome. Bling translates to ugly for me. Does Roush make any wheels you like being that you have a Roush Mustang? It would be nice to stay with the Roush theme. You can probably get some lighter wheels that will add to performance, whereas the 20" Chromies will only be a hinderance for handling.

I think either one would look good. Black wheels might be too much of a good thing. The slilver lip might help that though. The silver wheels would look good too. Do you still have your old wheels?

You can strip and powdercoat fairly easily, to keep a chrome lip will be a problem. Generally you have to strip the whole wheel, no way to avoid it when you see the intricate areas that require stripping, you'll understand that it's easier to just dunk the whole wheel rather than be careful and work around the lip.

I've seen people chrome just the lip, at a large cost because of how carefull you need to be in order to not bleed into other areas.

Stripping the whole wheel and powder coating the center black, silver, or anthracite can be done fairly easily and without great expense. I would stick with a polished lip, and clear it in to keep maintenance down to nothing on the polished part, it will come off as chrome.

Oh, I like them, forgot to say that. I'm partial to Chrome, but I will admit I see a lot of potential in a black wheel on that car.

I think the wheel well gap is what throws it off, is the car lowered or no?

the car is lowered with roush's suspension...

the wheels are american racing rogues. roush actually had this wheel in their booth at SEMA branded roush so i think they may have a deal with them

California is the pioneer of wheel work you guys invented this stuff.

I was in business for several years (motorcycle customizing) and due to that had several connections for chrome, powder coat, and anodizing. My former vendors still give me great deals. Had a set of S2000 wheels powder coated for a friend ( early Christmas gift from his wife), originally chrome 18's, stripped and powder coated a deep charcoal anthracite for 400 bucks. There was no polished lip, so it was a very easy job.

Shop around out there, 1998 to 2001 I farmed my work out to california based companies for a majority of my chrome swing arm work as well as my anodizing.

One of the best around back then was Montano's Custom Powder Coating, not sure where your located, but they are in Gardena, CA. number is (310) 808-0586

I like the American Racing Shelby Razor. Being the painted gray with the machined lip I believe would look sweet on your black car. The low profile tires on these cars don't look great with the 4x4 sized fender openings we have.

on one of my older mustangs i had 18" saleen replicas that were "hypercoated"

i really loved the finish on those damn things. they were silver with a very slight black flake in them. wonder if they could do something similar...
