next Mod?

Well I did a CAI, which is a small mod, now its time to get serious. What should I do next? I was thinking maybe gears and a chip, with new driveshaft. I hear alot of poeple talk about exhaust, but does i really do anything besides sound louder? If it's mainly for sound, than my stock is fine for now. I'm loking for the best bang for my buck, with about a 1000.00 dollar budget.

Bassani offroad x-pipe and some good mufflers (I like flowmaster but to each his own) that was the first thing I did to my 96 Cobra and I noticed a difference right away. The sound is an added bonus. With the CAI you should notice it even more. The x-pipe runs around 400 and the mufflers are about 60 bucks a peice (for flowmasters) That leaves you with 480 bucks to get your gears and a set of springs or subframe connectors. Good Luck!

I have a bit of difference in exhaust setup but definetely do PI swap next if you got the cash, best thing I have done. If you are looking for something smaller gears is are an awesome mod. Exhaust wise catback wont really do anything, aftermarket mid-pipe is good for some ponies and LT's are good for around 15 rwhp.

for 1200 you can do a PI swap. thats the biggest bang for your buck on a stock 96GT. Other then that get some gears and a high flowing mid-pipe.

x-pipe is a great mod ! then get the 3:73's or 4:10's . after that get a 75 shot of N20 !

no thats for a new PI kit, I did mine with used parts heads/cams@350 and PI intake cost me 120. 100 for head install kit and about another 200 for coolant tube and nipple etc. So I saved about 500 from going used. I'm not sure what people are chargeing for install cause I did mine myself and it was rather easy. I just went slow and took a couple breaks in between to stay focused.

also you could just do a PI intake swap for now. thats the big restriction on the 96-98 cars. that adds up to 15-20 hp and lets the motor breathe over 5000 rpms instead of falling flat. Livernois motorsports sells a kit to adapt the newer intake to the older heads. Also you could just do it with some RTV sealant so do a search you will find lots of articles about this.

wow thats great, I can't do that. But it sounds like any decent mechanic can, huh? I got a buddy that would work with me.

That sounds interesting. What steps would I still have to do to complete the entire swap if I did the intake first?

Gears (3.73 for highway driver/4.10 for around town driver) ---> Nitrous (more effective than the PI headswap and probably cheaper) ---> Off-Road H or X pipe.

they are all good ideas, just depends what your goal is. is this a daily driver? weekend ride? a lot of freeway time or only in the city? i dont have a 96-98 but my vote would be for a PI head swap. i have heard it helps alot. if not then maybe gears, x or h pipe, cat back. if you can do the work yourself, it will save your some $$$

I have a stick, won't the nitrous rave too much pass the red line, I guess I can only use it 5th and forth, maybe 3rd, Someone clear me up if I'm wrong.

good point. well by next spring my goal is to have it as a weekend warrior! So these next mods I do is going to by well planned and researched.
