Hi I have a 1990 Mustang LX 5.0 and when I turned on the vent the air only comes out from the top defrost vents near the windshield. Even when I switch the setting to the floor, still near the windshield. What can it be??? Please help! Thanks

You have a vacuum leak in the lines from the engine compartment that control the vents or you had the dash panel out and pulled off the yellow vacuum line that controls the damper that makes the air come out of the dash - it's located up behind the controls in the dash kinda on the driver's side.

Agreed. :nice:

I had the same problem, you have to lay down in the drivers side with your foot by the pedal and look up and you will see a small canister, see if it has a line going into it, there is also one more behind your center dash and one behind the glove box...

i checked mine to fix the problem and they are all in, so my question is how do i identify the line in the engine compartment to see if it has a leak?

I had the same problem after I did my h/c/i swap and my vacuum line had got "bump" disconnected. If you check on the driverside firewall (engine bay) at the vacuum tree that is labeled "B/R", "A/C", "S", etc...if you look at the A/C line make sure it is plugged in and follow it to verify it is plugged in or isn't cracked...

When I put it back on the a/c blew like it did before:nice:

Maybe that is the same with yours????

I sure hope you mean "head by the pedal"!

As for the line leading from the engine compartment to the controls - I **believe (I don't follow it into the dash)** it comes from the passenger side firewall where there is a distribution tube with two outlets - one goes into the firewall and the other goes into the passenger side fender for the vacuum canister - at least this is the what it looks like on my '89.
