No boost but add intercooler?

I see/understand the diagram I know, I understang

I found a little info online, Im not arguing with anyone here, and as I said I didnt expect to get burnt at the stake so put your guns back in their holsters john wayne

Nitrous oxide will cool the intake charge down quite a bit.

All heat in nature moves from a source to a sink. A temperature differential (deltaT) is needed for the transfer of heat through a medium, such as air. Air flow can also be facilitated by a pressure differential. Wind is an example of air movement due a pressure differential, air moves from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. This is pretty much all you need to know.

The "Wind Chill" effect occurs because moving air will remove more heat from your body than stationary air. This is because when the air is stationary, a thin layer of air directly beside your skin heats up and acts as an insulating barrier to the cooler air around you. The wind blows this thin layer away thus keeping your skin in contact with the cool ambient air. That's why it 'feels like' 20 degrees of stationary air when its really 30 degrees.

This effect doesn't just apply to living things. An intercooler on a turbo/supercharged car will not do as good a job cooling the charge if the intercooler is stationary (or the air is stationary around the intercooler) as opposed to air passing over it. The same principle applies where the air around the intercooler will warm up and insulate it.

Also, the 'equilibrium' between the cool air and hot charge will not necessarily reach the 'mid-way' point between the two temperatures. The actual equilibrium value would be that of the ambient air, however since intercoolers are not 100% efficient the intake charge is still warmer than ambient.

As stated above, it is impossible to cool the ambient air with an air-to-air intercooler since the temperature difference between the air in the intercooler and ambient is zero. For heat transfer to occur there must be a temperature difference.

I understand the concepts posted, I just didnt realize windchill only happens because of the moisture in your skin, since the water absorbs heat it cools it down. But since its metal, it is not going to down.

You still don't get it!

Moisture and skin have nothing to do with wind chill... there only has to be a temperature difference for the wind to cool an object. 30*air that is not moving will feel like 30* to your skin... 30* air blowing across dry skin will feel like 20* because it's carrying away more heat from your skin.

If your skin is wet, evaporation is occuring and it is a cooling process because as the moisture leaves your skin, it carries heat away with it also.

So if you have 70* outside air going into a turbo, it gets compressed and will heat up to say 120*, then it goes through an intercooler and the same 70* outside air blows some of that heat away and reduces the temp down to say 95*, then it goes into the engine.

If you have 70*outside air traveling through an intercooler and 70* outside air blowing across the intercooler NOTHING WILL CHANGE!!!

This has been explained to you too many times in this thread already, so hopefully you finally get it. If not, there is no hope for you and this thread will join the other epic fail threads like the ones posted above.

If you lived somewhere that was freezing temps year around, the outside air might be cold enough to have an effect on the intercooled air to make some kind of small difference, BUT all that added intake piping would surely negate any gains you might see and then some. The only reason you get away with having so much intake piping with a blower/turbo is because it's forced induction. With this scenerio you're relying on atmospheric pressure to push intake air through all that intake plumbing, and through those tiny openings in an intercooler. I think even if you ran one of those spray cooling systems on the intercooler to chill the intercooler, and even if you ran it through an ice box, i'm betting you would still lose power simply because of the extra intake restriction.
