Ok here is the deal. When i had my 94 gt i took it to the muffler shop and had them cut my mufflers off. It's in New Mexico so it is legal. I absoloutly loved the sound and it wasn't obnoxious or anything, it was honestly awesome.
Now i have a 2000 gt. It appears that the previous owner put some kind of "performance" mufflers on it, but it isn't loud enough. My favorite car sound is the 99-04 mustang with the exhaust opened up. Now, should i
A) Have them cut off these mufflers and hope it will sound the way i want.
B) Have them cut off just behind the mufflers and have turn downs installed.
Would the turndowns make it louder.
I don't really care about power gains (or losses) I plan on a vortech here pretty soon
I appreciate your opinions
Cheers
Cooper

what you want to do is install an off-road midpipe that will get rid of your cats and REALLY OPEN your exhaust up and make it alot louder...by doing so, you wont have to HOPE

the only thing would be to find out what type of mufflers you have...if you have flowmasters, i suggest and off-road H (Mac is who i went with)

if you have something like magnaflow magnapacks, i would go with an off-road X (magnaflow makes a really nice X pipe) or even a Mac prochamber

i know these werent options, but the midpipes is really what will make your exhaust louder

I've got a catted X w/ the Mac exhaust, and it's loud. I'd do the midpipe swap first. If you don't have emissions, drop the cats and see how the car sounds. If you still want it louder, then look at muffler replacement.

Offroad midpipe and dumps. It will be loud and it will still be sorta legal (hey it does have mufflers).

they are right about the mid pipe... i would not go with UPR though. its the cheapest, but with cheap prices comes cheap products. the fit sux!!! it has a slight leak. but no cats = sick satanic sound.
