Hi guys, I have a 89 gt convt. with an aod, stock motor with a Novi 1000. The car makes around 5# of boost at wot and seems to move on pretty good once it gets going. My problem is it won't break the tires loose when I power brake it, I think it still has the stock gears(308s?) and it has alum. drive shaft, OR h-Pipe, and catback. What can I do to get this thing to move out of the hole? Thanks for your help.

up the gears to around 4:10's.

Beef up the tranny with a shift kit and high-stall.

You will have no problems get'n the tires spinning after that

I agree. Gears and a higher stall converter. Mine old GT convertible was the same way. Even with 3.73's, the car would barely spin the tires at the track.

The gears have to go. But make sure that you do a high stall. To many people over look this piece. Don't buy an off the shelf torque convertor. they are crappy. Get a custom built one for your car. The wieght of your car, etc, etc, etc.

Everyone says to go to a higher stall , but can you go too high? I'm building my car with a c-4 and it will have a vortec s-trim on an otherwise bolt-on only engine. Can someone please give me an idea of what rpm stall to use , i have been trying to figure it out for weeks . P.S the car is a weekend warrior and will see the track a couple times a month.

that is probably the best advice your gonna get, pretty much off the shelf stuff is for mostly stock cars once you start pumping out power is moves into another realm of parts ie custom cams, converters so on

That is why you go with a custom stall converter. You fill out an info sheet on the car, weight, gear, HP, TQ, cam specs, intended use, etc. and they build the converter around what YOU want so it is near perfect match to your car.

To the original poster. Gears even without the higher stall converter will wake the car up. But gears w/ a higher stall converter will make it a whole different animal. I would also HIGHLY recommend that you add a transmission cooler on since heat=fried AOD.
