No Power Steering?

Im looking at a GT that has no power steering..he took it off but left the PS rack he doesn't have any of the PS parts how are the flaming river racks will the car drive and steer ok or should I just put PS back in...and if I have to do you know anywhere I can buy everything..Pump..brackets...hoses...etc....

Were it me... I'd put the power steering back into any car that was intended for the street but I like cup holders too.

Im with you..on that I just want to do whats easier to do...I would have to source everything out for power steering again...if I kept it manual I would just need the manual rack right?

You will hate the manual rack. Even with a coyote motor it was horrible in my opinion to drive manual steering.

Realistically, you should be able to buy everything for relatively cheap from the local auto parts stores and places like rockauto.com, with the exception of the brackets, but those should be pretty readily available from any mustang salvage joint or craigslist.

When my rack was leaking, I bought a reman rack, pump, and hoses for around $250 with shipping. Not a bad idea to do the balljoints, control arm bushings, and outer tie-rod ends to make the front end solid anyway.

Now, you do have to contend with the fact that the reman racks are usually setup with the steering feel of a Lincoln Town Car, but depending on what you are planning to do that might be okay.

You may also want to take the time to go ahead and upgrade to SN95 stuff, especially if you can score an 03-04 Cobra rack. More expensive and you need to do some conversions, but I have yet to hear of anyone who has regretted the swap.

I just replaced my pump last night. If you need brackets, I have an extra set I'll sell.

With that said, I also have a manual rack on the shelf. I've had both and don't mind either. Just preference. Also, manual racks don't leak, whine, or take up valuable space.

The pump and hoses are at any parts store. I'd replace the rack too since I doubt he plugged the fluid ports.

I did the whole thing recently. MM "Hybrid" steering shaft, MM rack bushings, and 03/04 Cobra rack. I wouldn't say I regret the improvement vs stock per se, however even with the "upgrade" its still so inferior to the steering feel and precision in my newer German car that I almost wish I didn't bother.

Its apples and oranges, I get it, but be realistic with your expectations if you shell out all the cash for this project. I'd say all in it cost me well over $500.

Why do you need a new rack if the car already has one in it? Did he damage it? Most likely you just need the pump, bracket and lines. Does the car have AC? If no AC then get the AC delete kit that move the PS pump up and that solves your bracket issue.

For a DD you will hate a manual rack. There are plenty of guys parting these cars out on message boards, CL and in junkyards.

If you buy from advance auto, do it online and if possible pick it up in the store. If you are spending over 100$ you can save a lot of cash.
