i just bought a 95 gt convertible. it has no power. it wont spin a tire, and when it goes up the road it feels like it wants to hang in gear till you take your foot off the gas. it also doesnt like to idle when you start it in the mornings. i'm taking it to a ford dealer tuesday, but im trying to figure out what it is so i can spend the labor money on something else. thanks

welcome to the board! have your catalytic convertors checked and your oxygen sensors. you can also have your idle air controll checked. do a search on those topics and you will learn more. good luck :nice:

Welcome to the board bro
Dude when I got my Vert last year in february it wont spin a tires in 2nd , when I installed off road H-pipe it spinn tires like crazy because cats was clogged, Verts are heavy , BUT much better lookin than Coupe's
Check sensors, timing, filters, put some injectors and intake cleaners ,that Vret will run like my if you keep moding with speed parts
Look at me from bone stock 15.1@89 to low 13s @1??
Just do search withy my nick and you will find something about your Vert

I'm guessing it's an Automatic. The cold starts is normal and I can't remember what needs to be changed for correction. Maybe another AODE guy will chime in here. Also could be your power problem. An Automatic Vert with stock gears is the heaviest Mustang ever made.

Are you getting any check engine lights? I was when I first got mine, it turned out to be the MAF sensor was bad. Replaced it, man it would move then. If you're getting check engine lights, pull some codes to see what's up.

BTW, welcome to Stangnet :nice:

How many miles does the 95 have on it? Did the previous owner(s) ever service the AODE?

I just got the AODE on my 95 flushed and the fluid replaced earlier this year - the gearbox shifts much better now, with less hang-up and lurching around. I seriously doubt the previous owner ever bothered with anything other than an oil change.

Also make sure the spark plugs and the rest of the ignition system is up-to-date. If those haven't been serviced properly, you're losing power (which is never a good thing).

(Added)

My 95 didn't idle well in the morning either (especially when it was cold), until I did a comprehensive tune-up. PCV valve was plugged, spark plugs were corroded, etc. Now it starts perfectly and idles perfectly, whether it's hot or cold outside.

I also have an automatic and had the hanging in gear problem when i first got the car. at that point i was extremely poor and was using 87 octane. i'm not sure if you do use that but when i switched from 87 to 93 i noticed a HUGE difference in how readily my car changed gears. i don't have any advice on the idling thing. my car randomly dies sometimes but that's after i put it in gear. also to go with the no power comment, this is probably really stupid but i've noticed when my gas get's low(below half a tank) i have no power and it feels extremely bogged down but right when i fill up it's right back to normal. good luck fixing up your stang.
