Coil, module, bad distributor, and the TFI (I think that's what it's called) are the most common. I know the module can be checked at the parts store, not sure on the others.
I had this problem too. My coil went bad during the engine swap! I figured it out by simply replacing it and the car then had spark. Also check your TFI module if that doesn't work. MSD goes bad.
I have disconnected the MSD. Didn't matter.
The changes were: H/C/I(2.5-3 months prior)
The car just suddenly died back in september, then sat till 3-4 weeks ago. Replaced the distributor( just old), started right up, shut the car off, went back out in the morning and nothing, just turns.
Went back 3-4 days later and it started right up, WTF!
timing was off so it died, but started right back up then died like I turned off the key, no sputtering.
There is no spark at the coil.
I'm ****ing lost!!
But it has worked after not working. As dumb as that sound, it makes sense(to me anyway).
Also installed sct chip with h/c/i.
Tested the TFI already, twice, it's fine.
i bought a new dizzy, it was a re-man, but the car idle'd for 3 min's and i shut it off, and no start afterward, come to find out the dizzy shat on me! i brought that pos back. i bought a tfi thinking that was it, nope. i did have to get a blaster coil to fix spark blow out at 5200rpms.
to a search in google on testing the PIP sensor, TFI module and Coil.
