no start on the new toy

Well she is probably flooded right now, which will compound the problems. You have verified that the spark is strong? Next thing like mentioned would be to make sure and set the base timing properly.

Actually I have an issue you may need to check into.. Has the timing belt skipped or broken?? 2.3L should be a non interference motor if memory serves... The Dist runs off the same belt, so if the dist is turnng and giving you spark then the belt is intact, but the belt may have skipped and have the valves out of phase... Is this a Dist or a Dual plus EDIS car?

What year is it??

You have verified good fuel in tank, strong spark and fuel delivery? I would make sure the cam is aligned properly per the manual. then set timing per manual and try some fressh fuel. Have you checked each plug wire that they are getting spark? did the seller say how it stopped running??

You may not see oil pressure during cranking unless you crank it a long time and then only a tiny bit.

OK, I would recommend you get a fuel line removal too. And some safety glasses. Remove the fuel lines and put them in a bucket or cascan the turn on the ignition. Fuel (of course) should come out a a pretty good volume velocity. if it seems to dribble out or worse nothing at all, then you know your fuel pump/filter is the issue.. I would recommend replacing the filter 1st, if is just behind the real axle. then repeat the above, if still bad then your pump is shot.

If nothing at all happens the 1st time, I would listen to hear if the fuel pump is actually running, if not it could be a bad pump relay...

yeah all ready did the the filter and the fpr.just woundering if it could be bad battery cables.i have lined up the cam with the dist and the crank all to tdc and number 1 and still nothing just violent shaking from the motor.could it be a bad oil pump since there is no oil pressure when i try to start it.

I have not seen many engines that will show oil pressure durring cranking unles they were just shut off, or you crank it a really really long time.

Did you verify that theere is good fuel flow at the rail also?? Even if it had an oil pressure problem that should not halt it from firing off, it would just affect hod long it ran before spinning a bearing or worse..

The only additional thing I can think of is having the injectors checked or replaced. How did the plugs look?? have you cranked it with one out to see that it gets a strong spark?
