Noise after installation of aluminum DS

I have noticed since the install of the JPC Driveshaft I have a noise in first and reverse when lifting off the gas. The noise is only in those gears, and if you disengage the clutch the noise will stop. I wonder if the driveshaft is transfering more noise than the stock unit. Anyone else with this mod have this problem?

Reducing weight in general is just asking for more noise and resonance.

As in the case of the driveshaft. You go from a solid steel shaft to hollow aluminum which is also slightly larger diameter than stock. A lighter hollow piece will not want to resonate or be affected more than a heavier solid piece? I was thinking along the lines of how products like Dynamat are very effective. You take a piece of bare metal and drop, hit, tap or whatever to it and it makes a certain noise. You add a weighted substance to it and it adds density which cuts down on the vibraton/noise. I am certainly no expert so that was my reasonsing, right or wrong...

I don't have the 4.10's, but I do have a PH drive shaft. I didn't notice an increase in noise at all.

Are you getting any noticeable vibrations at around 45-50MPH or is anything else going on besides the noise? What type of noise is it?

yeah I have the PSI Performance aluminum driveshaft and 4.10's. The only extra noise I have is just a SLIGHT bit of road noise that is transmitted in 5th gear at cruising speeds, but it seems to be normal. I haven't noticed any extra 1st gear or reverse noise

JTGrant, what kinda noise is it? Vibration noise, rattle noise, or gear noise? It likely normal to have some more gear noise in 1st & reverse with 4.10's simply due to the fact that your final drive ratios in 1st & Reverse are so low now... just a thought?

JT, I don't think you should be getting any noise or vibration from your new driveshaft. I had an FRPP aluminum shaft on my '96 and I have a Powerhouse shaft on my '05 now. No problems whatsoever. Maybe give the bolts the once over to make sure nothing is loose, and then you might want to check back with the seller.

then I bet it's less due to the driveshaft, and more due to the 4.10's.

Is the car lowered? If so, did you check the pinion angle or adjust it with an adjustable upper control arm [or adjustable lowers]? I am wondering if the joints might be binding a bit causing the noise.

I haven't put my aluminum DS in yet, because I am deciding on what [if anything] I want to do with that rear suspension.
