NOISE...DETONATION??

I think my car is having a similar problem...

Except, I only notice mine "pinging" in gears other than Park or Neutral.

Am I missing something here

Just put new heads on, so no carbon.

Maybe a bad fuel injector???

Detonation will not occur without load.

More info would be required. That said, low octane, a large vac leak, a MAF issue, running lean for other reasons, and about 20 other things could lead to detonation.

My timing is between 10-12*, so I run 87 octane.

The engine was just put back together w/ new gaskets/seals.

The MAF is stock but I check it regularly for cleanliness.

I did pull my plugs, and #'s 3 & 7 were bright white.

Usually means a lean condition.

I am going to buy new plug wires and a fuel filter.

Try some "cheap" and easy things first, then go from there.
