I'm in the middle of a trip that i drove 5 hours from pensacola to jacksonville FL and when i got here, my car started making this popping/clunking noise when the tranny was under an initial load(mainly starting in first or when I let off the gas and give it gas again). I thought it would have been a U-Joint so I took it in to a local tranny shop and they told me it was coming from my differential. They wanted to charge me 200 bucks to crack the cover open and inspect it.
I had my 3.73 installed about a year ago. I also bought an install kit consisting of new bearings and such. My question is: What in there could cause this noise? Is it major? Should i be worried driving 5 hours back home and bringing it to the guy who did the work for me?
Thanks for the help.

Do you know if the guy who installed your gears put the additive in when he did the change? If not, your spiders could be screwed.
I would add some friction modifier too.
