Noisy electric fan. where to buy a replacement?

just noticed today a grindy-roary noise coming from under the hood when i got home. i popped the hood and listened to it cease when the fan shut off then come back when the fan kicked back on. im assuming the fan has to be the problem. i guess there are bearings in the center of the fan making noise?

is the best solution just to replace the whole fan assembly? where might i find one? i hit up ebay but could only find some specific for 3.8's. i'll call my local dealership tomorrow for a price but hoping you guys might know where to find a more reasonably priced unit.

also, is this hard to swap out?

i just swapped out the motor. it was around $60.

pretty easy to do? can it be done without taking anything out?

i swapped the motor too. you will need to take the fan shroud out of the car. 2 electrical connectors, and a couple of bolts at the top on on each sode of the core support, and you can pull the shroud assy. out. once out you'll have a clip that holds the fan to the motor and a couple more bolts that hold the motor to the shroud. BE CAREFUL THE FAN WILL BE SHARP (gloves are highly recomended). you can do it

the hardest part is seperating the blade from the motor. you have to file or grind down the edge of the post a little bit in order for it to slide off. after that i kinda held the motor in the palm of my hand with the blade facing up and gently tapped the motor out with a hammer.

420 is correct - the blade's hub and the output shaft on the motor like to seize together. I would be prepared to buy a new fan if yours breaks (just so you're not surprised).
Maybe douching the hub with some PB before starting would help.

Our fan motors were problematic but if you have an OEM style radiator, it's nice to have a fan that bolts up to the rad. You could get a used fan on the classifieds (I've seen a couple recent listings on the other forum for 94-95 GT/Cobra fans for about 60 shipped).

yea, i called autozone for just the motor - $60. its about $20 more at the other parts stores. the whole fan/motor assembly is $179 here local. i can get it $60 cheaper from summit, which sorta surprised me.

havent decided which to do yet but my local dealership wants about $100 labor to install the complete assembly. even tho im not very mechanically inclined, i may give this one a shot and try and save some cash.
