I have a Actron scanner for Fords, when I try and read the codes it doesn’t seem to download them. I have gone through the steps many times, waited up to 10 minutes for the codes to download and still nothing. The manual says it should get them in 10 seconds to a minute. I have also tried going to AutoZone but they said they don’t pull codes on cars made before '96. I’m not sure what else to do besides taking it to a shop and having them do it but I would rather save that money...

The problem I’m having is my check engine light is on, it smells like I’m running rich and on mornings colder than 70* out its hard to keep running for the first minute or so, but once it warms up its good for the rest of the day.

I have recently changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor, O2 sensors, egr sensor, reset the timing to 10*, and checked TPS too.

What else can I do?

Let me ask this. When you initiated the KOEO self-test, did you hear the fuel pump turn on for a few seconds and a few "clicks" of the various actuators? If not, you likely have an open ground somewhere. Take a piece of 12-16ga stranded wire, strip about 3/8" of the insulation off either end. Stick one end into the small test connector on your harness (next to the large test connector where you plug in your Accutron scanner), and the other end to a good chassis ground. Try it again. If you've got a "check engine" light, it's likely you've got codes that'll trigger.

After that, beef up your electrical grounding system. http://www.stangtuning.com/showthread.php?t=1656

The fuel pump does its normal priming sound and there are no clicks after that.

Ill try the ground thing, thanks for the great info

Wow, I just put a stock motor back in my LX, and the scanner does the same thing. I get a few click up near the engine though. It pulled codes fine before the swap, so I am hoping for a ground problem. Thanks AutoXr1
