Does anyone have any ideas why my car won't charge its battery up? I tested the alt with a voltmeter... 14.6 when the car is running. I removed the alt, advance auto tested it out, said it was good. I tested the battery at autozone, AND swapped it into another car. Both times it was good. The second car would charge it enough to restart without a jump in less than 5 miles.. But my car will kill a battery in 10 miles.
I added a second ground strap from the timing cover to the chassis. 4 gauge wire.
I grinded the contact points on the bracket - to -head, as well as the alt-to-bracket to make sure it was grounding properly... The only change in wiring from stock was relocating the battery to the rear, but I drove it for 2 months like that, and it was fine (before I swapped engines) and I've added a second ground since then.
I'm REALLY unhappy with my car these past 2 days
PS: What are the 2 "clip" connections to the 94/95 alternators? I'm just wondering if those might possibly be part of the problem? They're both connected properly, but I don't know where they go at the other side.. If it's to a computer controlled regulator, then that could be the problem, yes? I've swapped to carbureted, so the computer has no control over my engine. IF that could be the problem, what do I need to get to fix it?
