Not looking good for 2010

As other have pointed out you get a cold air intake custom tune and gears and you can run in the 12s with the 05+ stangs. That’s impressive, just think about it a 600hp Z06 runs in the low 12s high 11s stock. HP is not everything, and if you need more put a S/C on for $3,500 and push 400+ rwhp all for less then the price of a new camaro and a lot less then the challenger. Thanks but I will always stick with the mustang even if they have less hp. Since 1964&1/2 most mustangs had less hp then the GM muscle cars.

Although there's no denying the fact. that both the Z-28 and Trans-Am's were able to easily out perform the Mustang.

Last I checked, GM wanted to move the Camaro to a different manufacturing plant because of cost, the plant that it was being built at had 'rights' to the camaro name until 2009 or something like that and they had to scrap the camaro until 2009 and they are building it somewhere else now.

that 600hp Corvette that is coming out not only absolutely kills our car in the 1/4 mile, it absolutely KILLS our cars when it comes to the corners. Going really fast straight is awesome...until a turn comes and when that happens, the new ZR1, or any corvette for that matter, will absolutely slaughter our car.

Well I'm quite certain that if GM really wanted to save the F-body Camaro. They would have found a loophole around the plant's rights to the Camaro name.

In which the Camaro name.. is owned by General Motors anyhow.

Therefore. I don't buy into such a lame excuse whatsoever. The bottom line is.. the F-body's demise resulted from years of declining sales, due mostly from it's inability to compete alongside the Mustang !

No question the vette will kill a stang in the handleing department but thats not what a stang is known for. You could make the stang handle better and performer better then the vette for a lot less money then buying one.

Ford should produce a 400-plus cube 3 valve modular engine and have a 4 valve version for special models like Cobras. It should use a strengthened aluminum block to keep weight down and drop out 4 cylinders at highway cruising speeds for fuel mileage similar to what GM does. It would be a great addition that would compete well with all Mopar and GM offerings. Ford could easily drop blowers on these things on the special models and have well over 600 hp right out of the box. The trick IMO would be to use the existing technology to keep costs down. Modular engines have much better top end power than push rod engines due to the push rod engine's valve float problems above 4500 rpm's. The biggest cost to Ford would be the development of the new engine block....big deal.

Give us the cubes Ford. Imagine a modular engine that produces close to 500 ft lbs of torque n/a.

I would think GM has the rights to the Camaro name, not an individual plant. The Camaro can not hold ITS own against the Mustang because GM in the past concentrated on performance only. Many may not agree, but, and I have said this before, the Mustang exists today only because of the V6. More buy the V6 than V8 and that's what has kept the Mustang profitable for Ford. I have owned both, loved both and currently have a 2007 GT. We owe our V8s to the V6s. If GM doesn't also build plenty of V6s, there is no way the Camaro could even think about holding ITS own against the Mustang. My two cents.

Rocky, IIRC the camaro had a contract to be built at the facility with the Union Auto Workers (UAW). GM could not get out of it, as they had the contractual obligation to build any camaro made. once the contract is up, GM can build it anywhere they want.

I stand corrected. So thanks for clearing that up Bigcat. However if it weren't for the F-body's declining sales. Perhaps the issue of wanting to move the Camaro to a different manufacturing plant because of cost, wouldn't have been a factor to begin with. In other words. if the F-bodies had been profitable for GM..the need for cutting manufacturing costs wouldn't had been required in the first place. Thus preventing the Camaro from being scrapped.

As for the contract with the UAW is concerned. GM has nobody else, but itself to blame for agreeing to such terms, to begin with !

Yeah. the 5.8/6.2 would have been fun, and you know supercharger kits would have been out within six months...

i just read in this months car & driver / road & track / motor trend )i dont remember which one. but they said the "on again off again but currently on" hurricane motor is being considered for the F150 re-skin coming in 2009

2010 mustang

The new HotRod also says the '09 F-150 gets the 6.2 and the '10 Mustang gets it and that it will have the capacity to go out to a 7.0L. I work at a Ford dealership and we haven't heard anything yet and neither has our zone rep.

Only the huricane name has been dropped in favor of the boss name. The F-150 gets the 6.2, the F-250 gets a 7 liter V-10 replacement and the stang gets a 5.8, or better known as the 351 for 2010. The boss engine family will be an option in vehicles, not the base engine as far as I've heard.
