Not you typical 4.6 conversion thread (big body conversion?)

Ok, I did a search first-but found nothing on doing this in a big body. Anyone know if it will fit with in the bay without doing a MII conversion like the earlier models?

If a Boss 429 will fit in there, then you probably can keep the stock engine bay. A 4.6 4V is at least the same size dimensionally as a 385 series.

Dont quote me but I believe a modular motor (SOHC) is almost 1" wider on both sides and the DOHC is closer to 2" over a FE motor. They are just so big because they are 90* V motors and over head cams

Yeah, but FEs aren't that large. A 385 series is.

Wow what a difference! Why is just because I guess-the hubby's idea. We were going to go 351 until this weekend when he spent too much time talking to a friend with an 03 Cobra with a 5.4 in it...lol. Since the 03 Cobra has a supercharger stock, could be interesting.

i have been wonndering that myself. i don't know of anyone who has done the conversion, even on the web anywhere. i "think" it will fit with possobly only some minor notching of the shock towers. the big body 71-73 cars were designed from the factory to bit a Boss 9 with no mods and the 4.6 is only slightly wider than a boss 9.

the 71-73 engine compartment is quite a bit bigger than even the 67/70 engine bay
