No, I have not done that yet.

As an update. I tinkered with the timing this morning, and I am pretty sure it's fine. However, she still stalls out. At one point it seemed like it was going to stay running. I was able to get out of the car and walk around and look under the hood while it was running. She ran for probably a minute, and then stalled out. I am back to thinking vacuum leak somewhere.

When mine had the vac leak, it did almost exactly what you are describing. Once it warmed up it would idle a little better, but I was always having to fiddle with the pedal to keep it running when it was cold. Did you check the extra vaccuum nipples on the back of the manifold/carb spacer to see if those rubber stoppers are not cracked? Also, do you have an auto timing advance? there is a vaccuum line that runs that as well.

I wouldn't overlook the float level post though - I would think that could give you the same symptoms.

im not too familiar with clevelands, but could your vacuum leak be where the intake actually mounts to the heads like on a windsor? this is a common problem. also, are u using a carb spacer. i tried using the factory 4bbl spacer when i added a holley and edelbrock intake and even with all the right gaskets i had a major vacuum leak that caused symptoms just like yours. i ended up buying a plastic 1 inch spacer, and all problems were solved. just an idea

All vacuum ports are plugged.

I have a buddy who knows more about carbs than I do. Since I can't keep the engine running long enough to really observe it up close, I will have him come over and help me. He's a chevy guy, so I will have to bribe him with a few beers.

I am not using a carb spacer currently. I suppose I could stop and get one and give that a try. What exactly does a carb spacer do? What's it's purpose?

i had this happend to me too it was my battery that i needed to change it wasent sending enough kick to start it try a battery froma differnt car.

Brand new battery. Plus, if you read the later posts, it starts fine, it just won't stay running unless I keep feathering the gas pedal.
