Yesterday I did a full tune up and I'm planning on changing the fluids tonight after work. It runs good but kind of does a surging thing. The car will GO then hesitate they GO and hesitate...you can notice it more around 70mph. Also I'm getting some bad wheel hop in the back, what would be the best mod to stop that? I know it needs shocks and struts, tires, front-end rebuild. How hard is it to change the ball joints?

Appreciate all the help!

A surge at that speed sounds possibly like a EGR problem. The wheel hop can be helped with new quad shocks, shocks and springs. If that doesn't help it you might want to think about UCA's and LCA's........check the torque boxes while you're under there.
any pics?

ball joints are kind of a pita
need a press and a pickle fork
took me about 5 hours to do both sides

also dump codes and see what the computer says is wrong! dont just throw parts at it to fix the hesiation problem it could be anything! also post in tech

You can also dump the error codes out of the computer. Look up JRichkers post for links to the website (or he'll see this and post in here)

That way, the computer can tell you what might be wrong.

I'm also looking to get some new tires. Called today and the shop suggested the BFG G-Force tires. Anyone have any experience with these? Right now the car has 245/45/17 tires on the back and 235/40 or 45/17 the back (can't remember which). Will a 245/45/17 fit on the front? It has the 17" Cobra rims...

Alright I just got told two different things...

I'm also looking into shocks and struts. Having quad shocks worth the extra $$$? Not planning on any track events just spirited driving on the street.

Just in my personal experience, 9" wide rims is a little much for the 90 and below fenders. But, I've seen others on here who have them... I dunno how they got them to fit unless they used spacers. I couldn't make them fit on my last car without changing fenders, and even then (and on my 93) they still rub.

My best advice is to go with 17x8 on the front... that what I'm doing next time.

Here ya go slick. 245/45Z17 BFG G-Force Sports. 17x9 wheels. Fit fine. Barley have a rub when turned all the way to the left only.

Looks like I'm going to get a lot done to the stang soon. End of the week going to take it down to the exhaust shop and get a new system put on. There is a leak somewhere and I'm going to replace the H-pipe with a X-pipe. Any suggestions on mufflers? I'm wanting to run dumps at the rear axle.
