Question, does my 96 have pressed on cam gears or bolt on gears? I cant tear down the motor to check before i order tha cams/gears i have to drive it everyday. I have found conflicting info while searching. I know the pi motors have bolt on cam gears, just unsure if my 96 does. Help will be greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly, all the Non PI engine have pressed on gears. You can take the passenger side valve cover loose and lift it slightly to visually verify for yourself though. It's easy as long as you do the passenger side.

you have bolt on gears. 12mm bolt. all romeo (96-98,01-04) engines have bolt on gears, the windsor (99-00) engines have press on

You remembered wrong. All NPI engines have the bolt on gears. The only engines that had the press on gears with the 99 - 01 Windsor PI engines...

thanks for all the info and help, i am not putting pi cams in. I am gonna order trickflow 264 dur and 550 lift trackmax cams, 4.30 gears and i already have a pro products intake manifold and HPS npi head to pi manifold adaptors. trick flow upper intake 75mm t body and 80mm mass air should round out the combo nicely.

would like to get 250-300 rwhp. if a little less, thats ok too. not wanting a ls1 killer, just a tire waster.

If you have stock NPI heads those cams will be too much lift without a retainer change. You may already know that though. There are some cool new cams out for NPI heads at modularheadshop.com the stage 2s look awesome and will work on stock NPI heads.
