o/r Xpipe vs. o/r H-pipe

Which one produces more drone an o/r x -pipe, or an o/r H-pipe? which one is better for performance? Thanks.

Well, it kinda depends on your taste and what you prefer. Drone really wont come from the mid pipe but more so the muffler style. Here is the major differences.

H-Pipe: Typically will produce deeper mello tones from the exhaust, and increase torque numbers more so than HP. Typically work well with chambered style mufflers.

X-Pipe: Typically will produce a louder "raspier" tone from the exhaust, and HP numbers are found usually alittle higher then an H. The usually work well and compliments straight thru mufflers well.

From gains alone usually an x pipe is the best option, but I tend to find H-Pipe to give a much nicer exhaust tone to any muffler type.

Like 98v6 said. I just installed my MAC O/R H pipe and im really satisfied. It sounds alot better

Hmm i guess i should lean more towards the o/r H-pipe because i have series 40 flowmasters on right now. But i also heard the the o/r hpipe with flowmaster mufflers makes like a farting noise when you release the throttle, dunno if its true or not or if it makes that big of a difference

Xpipe with flows makes the fart noise , H pipe with flowmasters will have some drone but will sound alot better as far as just sound goes over the X pipe

I've seen alot of h-pipes make more power than the x. Plus it sounds better!

but if you're tired of H pipes and Flows, come over to the dark side with an offroad X and Borla Stinger catback. Scares children and annoys old people.

H pipes will have the popping noise when releasing the throttle.

X pipes make the raspy farting sound when releasing the throttle.

This also depends on your mufflers though.

I just switched from an O/R X to an O/R H today. I have a pypes catback. The H sounds 10 times better. There isn't any raspyness to it and it has a deeper tone.

My O/R X doesn't make any of this "farting" sound some of you are describing. O/R X has bigger gains on high hp boosted cars but I really don't think a catback and/or midpipe will make much of a difference on a mild bolt-on 2V, as far as hp gains are concerned.

Alright i heard and compared the differences between the H and the X, and i think im going to go with the H. But is it even worth buying a whole new pipes as apposed to just cutting out the cats from the stock H-pipe and replacing them with tubing? A stock Gt comes with an H-pipe right? and what are the diameters? because all the o/r H-pipes i see online are 2.5 inches. Thanks

stock is 2.25 and not designed quite for performance. Just get an o/r H from Mac or some place for around $150

It's worth just buying one. You wont see as much of a gain as you would with a pre made one. Weighing the price and the time to modify the existing h-pipe plus with the small tubing....it's worth just buying one. You can find used ones for cheap too.

I agree. I'd also like to add that if you ever decide to sell the car you're gonna wanna have that stock mid pipe with cats lying around to switch back to. Some potential buyers may be scared off by an o/r pipe especially if they have to go through emissions testing. Definately buy an o/r h-pipe and keep your stock one.
