My CAI tube thing had a crack in it so i took it off and hokkd my KN Cone to the boot that come from the TB til i was guna get a new pipe.. Then i Heard CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK!! all of a sudden.. when ever i hit the gas.. a loud obnoxious clank clank clank... My car shut off on the freeway lol.. i threw it in nuetral and started it back and pulled off to the side.. My car overheated LoL.. and i pop the hood and the KN fell off somehow and was melted to the damn exhaust mani.. SOoOOo im thinking i dont no how.. but sumthin coulda flew in the TB and is in my engine?? or no bc wouldnt the clank clank happen whenever the engine is on.. not just when i hit the gas?? i also have a severly slippin clutch.. it that changes anything.. Anyone got an idea of wat might of happend?? thanks heh :bang:

IMO that was a bad idea and you were better off w/ the cracked tube and just fixing it w/ some duct tape for the mean time. It's never good to run w/o an air filter. Since it wasn't an extended period of time I couldn't imagine the damage being severe. Just get an air filter back on and it should be ok assuming you didn't drive it too far.

first off is this a mass air car or is it a speed density??? pull the plugs, if you ingested anything there will be witness marks on one or more plugs. if it is mass air and you left the meter out of the loop you could be experencing DETENOATION. good luck

agreed, Pulling your plugs will tell you if anything big got sucked in. (likely a plug would be bent or damaged in some sort of way. If one is damaged take a borescope to look into the cylinder. if it is a mas, simply hook it back up take tape the crack and see if it starts. The engine cranks right? If not it sounds more severe. I.E. sucked something in and got lodged between piston and cylinder wall.

I would be looking to prepare my bank account for a worst case scenario..sorry for sounding bleak..but I suspect the engine has ingested something...and that's never a good thing.

Well, I'm not real sure what everyone thinks has been sucked into the engine. If you didn't drive it very long, I doubt anything major got in there. I doubt you floored it considering the circumstances, which means the throttle would have only been partially open and nothing very big could enter through that small of an opening...besides, with the hood down, you don't have a lot of junk flying around under the hood on a freeway anyway.

I would tape up the CAI like some said, put it back on there and hook your MAF up. See if the car still makes the clank clank sound. If it does, post back up.

CAI fix: If possible, drill a 3/32" hole at each end of the crack. Get some JB Weld and cover up the crack and sand it smooth. That's assuming that it isn't broken in two pieces or ready to quickly become two pieces.

My guess is that the noise you heard is unrelated to the CAI and that the thing oil starved and died. Just a guess. If it's a correct one... hire a bugler and start playing taps.

So Let me get this right
You had a crack in the intake tube , so you hooked the conical air filter directly to the TB :nono: ....So your affraid that you aspirated something into the engine..lol

1st thing 1st, did you find any hardware (clamp/nuts/bolts) from the conical air filter. if you didnt then thats prolly what is in the engine..oops, (Dont under estimate the suction power coming from the throttle body) or they just fell off with the filter and are on the road somewhere.

I doubt with the hood closed you would get anything in the engine bay besides road dirt..think back, real hard, did you have anything loose in the engine bay,

if you found the filter hardware, then it was prolly from detonation because ure car aint ment tooo hve the fltr hookked two the thotle boddie . :rlaugh:

sorry i took so long to post back.. but my car isnt mass air.. and i pulled two plugs and there is no abnormal damage to them at all!! i started it up this morning and the clank clank is still there.. even at idle i wish u guys could hear it somehow.. i can record but dont no how to post it.. and all my hardware from the filter is there.. theres no way the clutch has nething to do with this?? bc i really think my clutch is supergone.. and this all started when i was goin uphill.. when my clutch slipps the most

Well let's say nothing got sucked in. Running out of oilk causes a VERY noticable clanking/tinking noise. If your clutch is slipping THAT bad it can have bad effects on the flywheel (CRACKS) Which is not good. My dad does nothing but trannies for a living. He told me bad drivers that bad drivers (not saying you are) slip the clutch WAY too much and puts a lot stress on the flywheel and cracks/breaks them. SO... if your clutch is that bad you probably shouldnt even have been driving it because it is putting those "bad driver" effects on the flywheel. Might as well get a whole kit for it. Like a spec stg1. I dont know if they come with a flywheel or throwout bearing.

And by no means am I experienced with this. Don't take this as gospel, this is just the stuff I learn from my dad ok? lol
