IMO that was a bad idea and you were better off w/ the cracked tube and just fixing it w/ some duct tape for the mean time. It's never good to run w/o an air filter. Since it wasn't an extended period of time I couldn't imagine the damage being severe. Just get an air filter back on and it should be ok assuming you didn't drive it too far.

agreed, Pulling your plugs will tell you if anything big got sucked in. (likely a plug would be bent or damaged in some sort of way. If one is damaged take a borescope to look into the cylinder. if it is a mas, simply hook it back up take tape the crack and see if it starts. The engine cranks right? If not it sounds more severe. I.E. sucked something in and got lodged between piston and cylinder wall.
Well, I'm not real sure what everyone thinks has been sucked into the engine. If you didn't drive it very long, I doubt anything major got in there. I doubt you floored it considering the circumstances, which means the throttle would have only been partially open and nothing very big could enter through that small of an opening...besides, with the hood down, you don't have a lot of junk flying around under the hood on a freeway anyway.
I would tape up the CAI like some said, put it back on there and hook your MAF up. See if the car still makes the clank clank sound. If it does, post back up.

So Let me get this right
You had a crack in the intake tube , so you hooked the conical air filter directly to the TB
1st thing 1st, did you find any hardware (clamp/nuts/bolts) from the conical air filter. if you didnt then thats prolly what is in the engine..oops, (Dont under estimate the suction power coming from the throttle body) or they just fell off with the filter and are on the road somewhere.
I doubt with the hood closed you would get anything in the engine bay besides road dirt..think back, real hard, did you have anything loose in the engine bay,
if you found the filter hardware, then it was prolly from detonation because ure car aint ment tooo hve the fltr hookked two the thotle boddie .

Well let's say nothing got sucked in. Running out of oilk causes a VERY noticable clanking/tinking noise. If your clutch is slipping THAT bad it can have bad effects on the flywheel (CRACKS) Which is not good. My dad does nothing but trannies for a living. He told me bad drivers that bad drivers (not saying you are) slip the clutch WAY too much and puts a lot stress on the flywheel and cracks/breaks them. SO... if your clutch is that bad you probably shouldnt even have been driving it because it is putting those "bad driver" effects on the flywheel. Might as well get a whole kit for it. Like a spec stg1. I dont know if they come with a flywheel or throwout bearing.
