o2 sensor install help

Are you using a socket? IF you are, try an end wrench. I don't have my catalytic H pipe on mine anymore, so mine has more room to work.

PB Blaster? I would use an o2 socket on a ratchet and a pipe over the ratchet for more leverage. Also a wrench can work too.

Disconnect the battery, drop the starter. Works everytime.
If your bolts aren't all rusted to crap! Starter removal gives ample access and then you aren't fk'ed if an exhaust bolt or stud breaks.

That's why you spray it with WD-40 or a similar product and let it soak in first, come on guy be smart about it. And I would'nt say that if you break the stud you are ****ed, thats easy to fix too. Just drop the pipe and be done with it.
Depends on the rust. Changed one lately? I've seen plenty of s!!tcanned exhaust parts due to exactly what I mentioned. So, to be smart about it as you say, drop the starter and be done with it. And btw, rust penetrator doesn't always cut it with rusted exhaust, which I'm sure you would know from having done a few yourself right? Taking the exhaust off is as silly as the wrench on the right side o2 comment. Its not my intention to insult you sir, however, why chance all that? The starter is far easier to remove and gives you all the room you need. I have done a lot of 02 replacements on Stangs and many other vehicles. This is the easiest way. Try it and you'll see what mean. To the original poster: you'll have all the room you need with the starter out of the way.

get some extensions and maybe swivel and drop the pipe. Might wanna get a new passenger gasket if you do this though. Plugging them in can be a pain in the ass, but its doable

Yes I have dropped a midpipe lately. I happen to be a Mechanic by trade and I deal with Military equipment so I know all about rust and parts that are worn out and how to deal with that accordingly. I don't think that a guy that is having a hard time removing a O2 sensor should really be screwing around with dropping the starter, as I said be smart about it.
Well good for you, I happened to serve in the military as well and dealt with some of the same issues with their vehicles too...what is screwing around with the starter? Its easier to take off than the manifolds and gives you all the room you need. Its a piece of cake and like I said, I've done it that way a lot of times on a lot of different vehicles and never had any probs.....and dude, not to mention the least is the royal pain in the rear removing exhaust bolts while your laying on the ground, underneath a low car in the first place. So yeah dude, if he has access to a lift to do this then great try the exhaut. If he's gonna do it in the driveway, with no air tools or lift, like I suspect he will/would, the starter is the easiest way to go. And no broken exhaust bolts.
The mechanic I been go for last 4 years quote me 120, for ****ing labor, he even charge me for the driver side 02 sensort he just remove for ****ing $60. I swear I will never go to that place again. I went out and bought 7/8 wrench and patient working and use some 20 wrench to help taking it out,

. then I dis the battery. It takes me less than 5 mins to get my passenger side o2 sensor out when i need to. Why the hell would you even think about dropping the starter? Mines a 2000 GT. Damn this isnt rocket science, like someone said above get a swivel and drop the H pipe, that should take all of 15- 20 mins MAX Drop the starter??

I've done it both ways. Starter is faster and easier. Make sure you disconnect the battery first.
I accident let the starter touch the wrench it and created a BIG spark front of my face, really scary, I learn my licence

I have used both a wrench(I have ones that have a ratchet action) and a socket. I have never had to drop a starter for an oxygen sensor let alone for the entire H pipe. That is too much work and really shows that someone isn't sure of what they are doing. It takes 5 minutes tops to yank a sensor. I have done exhaust on mine and a friends Mustangs about a dozen times. From my stock H pipe, to my Mac O/R H pipe to my Longtube x pipe install, I have never had a single issue with an 02 sensor.
If he is having this much trouble, he should pay the guy to do it. This is 5-10 minutes total work.
