O2 Sensors

My 88LX is running like crap today after the Rack replacement horror show. I noticed I broke both ends off the O2 sensors while replacing the rack. Any tips to getting them off they are seized. What is everyone using for O2 sensors?? All I can seem to find are Bosch they any good??

Bosch is as close to OEM Ford parts as it gets

I've use Bosch 02's with no problem...they would run in the $80 dollar range at your local part stores.

Make sure you get the correct location 02 sensors. With Bosch and there 4 wire setup, you probably will see the 'same' part number/02 for much of the 02 bungs

It is a really easy swap, disconnect the negative wire on the battery (black wire) and then jack up the car safely. Then just unplug the 'bad 02 sensor' and then loosen and remove it with a 7/8" wrench. Then put the new one in and plug it back up.

You will know which is the bad 02 sensor by having the codes read - it should say which bank and sensor it is.

Bank 1 - Sensor 1 is the header (front of car) 02 sensor on the passenger side.

Bank 1 - Sensor 2 is the muffler side (back) 02 sensor on the passenger side.

Bank 2 - Sensor 1 is the header (front of car) 02 sensor on the driver side.

Bank 2 - Sensor 2 is the muffler side (back) 02 sensor on the passenger side.

You can have codes read at places like Autozone and Advanced Auto parts for free I believe...

as much as it will suck to do while hot, they will come out alot easier. let car run for a bit and warm up exhaust. I personally would probably wind up doing it with pipe wrench and cheater bar.

No, thats 95'-96'+ OBD-2 stuff. rear 2 Sense catalytic converter burnoff.

Nah, just two so use the bank 1/bank 2 - sensor 1 numbers. No need to worry about the 'back.'

So when you go 'shop' for 02 sensors, just tell them which side: Passenger side is Bank 1, and Driver side is Bank 2.

I just post that, because it is that way with the 96+ SOHC that I deal with so it is a quick copy and paste. They use 2 front 02 sensors and 2 back 02 monitors.

No, just 2 up near the manifold and h-pipe connection.

I just got 2 -02 sensors $10 price difference one has a longer pig tail. Came to almost $100 CDN for 2 sensors, not too bad. I hope she purrs again, I got the emissions test done late last year and the tech said O2 sensors need changing soon.
so hopefully it will run better than ever. Thanks for your help guys, Now I need to change them.

Heat them up and get a nice long open end wrench so you can get some good leverage on them.

I put 2 new Bosch ones on myself about a month ago, $37/each from Advance Auto.

I figured after 90K miles they were about due to be replaced.

Nice, I guess the 'newer' 02 sensors are more expensive...

I'm still running my stock 5.0 02 sensors with 170k...
