More than likely OBD-I. '96 was the year of change, but of coarse some manufacturers put OBD-II in their pre-96 models. Look at the OBD connector and tell me if it's a 16-pin -- if it is...then it's OBD-II

OBD-II
I found this out cause I assumed everyone was right with the '96+ thing so I bought a cheap one at Wal-Mart only to find the connector under the dash is a 16-pin OBD-II.

Lol i didnt mean to make it sound as if i thought u were guessing, the thing is my question is, if the 94-95 V6's are OBD-II then I would be able to use a programmer wouldnt I?

Not if the programmer isn't compatable with the stock ECU program code. For instance, a Diablo predator will work on a '03 V6 but not a '04 V6, and they both have OBD II ports.

SCT XCal 2's WILL work with 99% of OBD II Fords - the new XCal 2 SF Model 9415 contains programs for a large variety of OBD II cars including 94-95 V6's - it's even newer than the XCal 2 - hasn't even been officially announced by SCT yet, has on-screen datalogging and can be upgraded with a custom tune later if someone wants one.

It also allows you to adjust a number of parameters yourself - onscreen without a laptop - you can adjust: 87 octane, 91 octane, 93 octane, Economy, speed limiter, idle drive, idle neutral, if it's an auto, all the shift points, shift firmness, rev limiter, cooling fans, timing low, timing mid, timing WOT, WOT fuel, Axle ratio, stock injector, 24# injector, 30# injector, 80mm LMAF

I'm one of the few dealers in the country that has these already.

There's an answer for the earlier model OBD II equipped cars then, and SCT products are excellent. For later-model OBD II equipped cars the on-screen datalogging and ability to upload a custom tune is nothing special though, as current tuners will do that. Most of the adjustable parameters listed are also already adjustable with current tuners. Worth looking into though for those in the market for a tuner.

I was under the impression none of the calibrator things from anyone would work on anything under '99. Does this mean there is something out there you can use to hook up a laptop to an older stang?

YEP - There is, read what I posted previously, 94-95 V6 Mustangs are completely able to be flashed with the newest XCal 2 SF and with the current XCal 2. You can datalog hundreds of parameters with a laptop, read and clear codes, do minor tuning, have the ability to receive tunes via email from the dealer when you make changes to your combo. The newest XCal 2 SF gives you the ability to do all that without a laptop - and suppose you sell you V6 Mustang and get a 96-06 Mustang, an F-series truck, a Lightning, 96-04 Cobra, 5.4 Cobra R or a Mach 1 - all you have to do is flash the current car back to stock and it'll work on those vehicles too - that's the newest XCal 2 SF without custom programming - the older XCal 2 and the newer onewill work with virtually all OBD II cars with custom programming.

I have ONE of the newer XCal 2's available - email me at don@lasotaracing.com for more info - if I post particulars here, I'd be violating Stangnet's spam policy.
Thanks,

Don

You can also go with a performance chip, but a flash tuner would be much more versatile.
