Hey guys, youve all been nothin but helpful to me thusfar, so ill put one more out to ya. Car has been makin a truly...annoying noise for the last...few weeks, and as best as i can describe it it sounds like the scraping/rubbing noise disk brakes will make if the rotors have a little rust or such on them, only much louder, happens only with clutch engaged ( pedal out ) and even then only for the first...5 minutes or so when the car has sat for at least a few hours. goes away with clutch in, goes away when the car drives fora while. ( think it might be getting worse  Was told by previous owner ( bout 2 years ago ) that he had "recently" done the clutch. Clutch doesnt slip, holds real well ( frpp KC clutch) but im wondering....as it goes away with the clutch pedal down im sure its clutch related, just wondered if anyone could pin it down more than that - TOB, disk itself, etc...

Thanks for any replies:nice:

If it goes away when you press the clutch , its the TO bearing. I recently had mine go out.
But mine was wierd, it would get worse when I pressed the clutch. Everyone said theirs would get quieter though. I guess mine was really bad.

yeah if you just lightly press the clutch pedal, enough to just get the TOB to touch the PP fingers, the noise usually goes away. That sounds like a archetypal TOB problem.

Most recommend a Ford TOB but it's frickin expensive. The autozone one appears to be solid. Worked great for me for a couple years. I then had to r/r the motor so I replaced it with a Ford TOB and we will see what happens. $70 is too much for something like that.

Look around on ebay... I was able to get a ford racing clutch n fly wheel for $75 from someone... might as well do your clutch at the same time... i think my TOB is going out ass well because when i push on the cluch i get a squeeking noise... comming from the trans...

The bearing itself is cheap. Yes, the tranny has to come out. Since you said the clutch is fresh I am willing to bet they didn't put a new TO bearing in there which is a way for them to make more money later:notnice: Or to give them the benefit of a doubt the TO bearing died prematurely which some have said about the TO bearing that comes with the KC clutch kit. Mine has had no problems.

Anyways, it not difficult to replace. Drop the mid pipe(h-pipe), the driveshaft, then the tranny. A tranny jack is very helpful when you are by yourself.

how loud is this sound suppose to be anyways? i actually hear this sorta soft grinding noise when the car is stopped and in neutral. when the clutch is in engaged the sound goes away but the sound itself isn't that loud. very faint and can be eliminated with my music lol. do i need to get my tob changed as well? or can it go for a lil while longer?
