Reading the codes can be a real PITA on these cars. One of those LCD readers sounds nice, eh? Got a friend with one that you can borrow?

One caveat is that you sometimes get a real quick ghost flash - it's a separator for the code readers but you're not supposed to pay attention to it. Is this a KOER or KOEO code? What do you get in the other run-mode?

Good luck.

I checked the black thing by the plastic wheel under the rotor, it seemed to be pretty snug, but as far as I know thats still the original distributor and ****, with 102k miles on it.

I periodically clean the PIP - douche it with electronic contact cleaner. You can also run a magnet around inside the bowl. If it picks up ferrous material, the PIP or dizzy bushing are likely taking a poop.

Good luck.

Hey everyone... I had the same exact problem when I first got my mustang, except I also had the added bonus of the car deciding when it wanted to start and not start. Didn't matter what the temp was, how long it had been sitting, etc. Would even die driving down the road and wouldn't start back up for 5, sometimes 30 mins. Replaced darn near everything I could think of, including the computer, until it finally died about 90 miles from home, and during the tow, the driver told me it was my distributor module (which I'm assuming is the PIP you guys are talking about). Went and bought the wire harness thingy that pokes out of the dizzy, took the dizzy out/apart, replaced it, and haven't had a problem since.. HTH :SNSign:

I have been having the same problem with my 94 GT. engine would shut off and stall on the highway, sometimes would start right back up other times I would have to wait 5,10,30, or even an hour before it would fire back up again. I also had the surging problem where the rpms would drop to 0 then fire back up while I was still on the highway cruising. Had the coil changed, still stalled on me, new cap, rotor, plugs still stalled. Sick of the shop I searched around on some mustang sites and many people pointed to the ignition module thats under the air intake on the passenger side fender. It was a 50 dollar part and it took about a half hour to install because I had to go buy a specialty tool to take the module off the heat shield. Anyways hasn't stalled or stumbled on me since I replaced the part. Hope you figure out the problem!

Just an FYI for the original poster....I believe that's the TFI module(used to be on the distributor on older 5.0L). It is possible that it's bad, before buying a new one, take the module to Autozone. They can test those for you, for free. Hope this helps.

For anyone whom has the car actually not restart immediately after it craps out:

Check for injector pulsing and spark. If you are missing both, the PIP is likely.

If you have injector pulsing but no spark, the PIP should be ok. Look at the TFI, ignition coil, etc.
