I need some help figuring out why the odometer on my 96 Mustang stopped working recently. I had the engine replaced about a month ago, and I just realized that neither of the odometers function anymore.

Is there a cable that I could look for and attach to correct this problem or is it likely something worse?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I had a chrysler new yorker and the same thing happened to me. The only problem is that it had been like that for the previous owner who drove it like that for 50,000 miles with a broken odometer. Needless to say i didnt drive the car for too long cause it crapped out on me about 6 months after i bought it. But when i did get it taken to be fixed it was a simple cable attatchment. Took the guy minutes to do and he didnt even charge me. Not sure how its dont but just take it some place and if you know the guy well he might do it free of charge!

Dead Odometer

I seem to have a similar problem. Both the odometer and trip odometer on my 94 V6 have stopped. All the other guages in the instrument cluster work. I have changed the cluster with no change. And I have posted this problem on forums a few times and no one has come up with an answer that solves the problem.

There is no speedometer cable. The instrument cluster is pretty easy to remove and there are 2 wire harnesses connected to it.

I sure would like to know how to fix this. Who knows, I may want to sell my car someday.
